If your music lacks weight and confidence, try this easy tip:

Copy your cello and bass lines onto a synth bass and tuck it under the orchestra. You might not hear it, but you can feel it - when you take it away, the music feels less solid and certain.

This is one of the quickest ways to add power and authority, and I use it on almost every score.

It used to be that only big companies had the resources to put creative work out into the world, and actually reach people.

Technology changed everything. Now you, as one person, can produce your own work, distribute it throughout the world, and even market it yourself. I think this is the best time in history to be an individual creator.

And audiences feel it too. People are fatigued with CG, with AI, with more of the same. What they actually want is individuality. Creative risks that big studios are too afraid to take.

That's why I built Film Score Academy - to help you develop your own voice, and get it out into the world.

So make the work that only you could make. Now is the time, and I can't wait to hear what you create.

Sunset Blvd doesn't look like it used to. Neither does this industry.

I've watched Hollywood shift for more than 20 years: the 2007 crash, streaming, COVID, the strikes, the fires. Now everyone's asking me about AI.

But here's what I've learned: change is the only constant in this business. The tools change, the questions change, but why I create never has.

For me, it's simple: I create because I love telling stories through music.

Whatever comes next, I'll keep writing. And I hope you do too. ❤️

What's the one thing that stays constant for you? 👇

My three favorite ways to beat writer’s block 🎶

1. Play before you write.

This one’s underrated. Before you try to write a masterpiece, just play your instrument. Try different registers, random notes, weird patterns. Nobody’s listening, so have fun with it. That’s literally what an instrument is for. The ideas show up when you stop trying so hard to find them.

2. Move your body.

Get out of the studio (or stay in and dance, or whatever works). I know it’s hard to leave the desk when you’re supposed to be writing, but your body deserves the movement and your mind deserves the break. Some of my best ideas have come from the rhythm of a walk or the sound of the ocean. It’s science: moving your body changes how your brain works.

3. Polyphonic listening. Game changer.

Turn on multiple pieces of music at once, ideally in different rooms, kept quiet enough that they blur into noise. Then just relax and let your mind wander. It’ll start hunting for patterns in the chaos and hand you new melodies and rhythms you didn’t know were in there.

I’ve been doing this for years, every time something feels stuck. It works every time. Give it a try and let me know what you find.

Save this for the next time you hit a wall 🙌

Someone recently asked me how you could learn film scoring. Don’t you have to be a genius to do that? Every composer I know knows that’s not true.

Writing music is a skill. Like learning guitar, learning to draw, learning anything. It comes down to practice, building skills, and developing a unique voice. The desire you feel is the clue that it’s something you can do. You just have to get started.

That’s exactly what my course is built for. 30 Day Film Composer takes you from the ideas in your head to a full cinematic cue in 30 days. You don’t need to be a genius. You just have to answer that voice telling you you’re ready.

Right now, 30 Day Film Composer is the lowest price it will ever be. Get the course and start answering that voice. I can’t wait to hear what you create 🙌

Just got back from my first Cannes Film Festival after 20 years in the business, and weeks later I’m still energized by it. I came to meet people from all over the world - and I live in LA, so of course I met people from home too. But it was great to finally connect with some of them there, when we’d never crossed paths back here.

What got me most was hearing about everything being created out there, big projects and small ones. Everyone’s working with what they’ve got, and they’re going for it. I came back inspired by every single one of them.

Here’s the thing though - you don’t have to fly to Cannes to feel this. You can find it anywhere people are creating. Go to the next city over, find your people online, build your own community. Just get out there and share your work, share your vision no matter how big or small. I promise you’ll come back inspired - or you’ll inspire someone else.

So get out there, share your work, and meet people however you can.

If you have a dream, go for it. I believe in you.

Introducing my newest product - The Composer's Studio 🎼🎹

It's a set of templates for your DAW, pre-loaded and mixed with a full professional scoring setup, made to get you writing music right away.

I made The Composer's Studio because I keep hearing from composers that they want to write, but setup gets in the way. Figuring out what instruments to load, reverbs, how to mix them so they sound good together - by the time they actually start writing, the inspiration is gone and the track stays unfinished.

The Composer's Studio solves all of that. It's already set up with orchestra, percussion, synths, and everything else you need for a modern film score. All the instruments are balanced and mixed, with reverbs already set up, so when inspiration strikes you can sit down and get to work with nothing in your way.

I'm also including the Pro Orchestra Expansion - the same full cinematic template, upgraded with professional, free-to-download orchestral sounds from Spitfire Audio.

My goal with this product is to get you past the setup block and writing music like pros do - with a full studio of instruments ready when inspiration strikes, so you can finish tracks, and get your music out into the world.

The Composer's Studio works in Logic, Cubase, Pro Tools and Ableton, so no matter which DAW you use, you can start writing today - and it's 50% off for a limited time!

Comment "Studio" and I'll send you a link to the details, and I can't wait to hear what you create 🙌

You open your DAW. Blank session. You load a piano, maybe a few patches. But nothing sounds the way you heard it in your head.

Before you’ve written a single note, you’re already deep in setup. And the music barely gets started.

That’s not a talent problem. That’s a setup problem.

I built the FSA Composer’s Studio from 20+ years of Hollywood sessions. This is the exact setup I use - a complete professional scoring session, already built. Pre-loaded and pre-mixed, or blank and ready for your own sounds. Pick your scene, open your template, and write.

Pro Orchestra Expansion included free - the same full cinematic template, upgraded with professional, free-to-download orchestral sounds from Spitfire Audio.

$47 at launch. Get the Studio today. Link in bio.

Here's a thought.

What if you're not too old?
What if the timing is actually perfect?
What if you already have everything it takes to make your music career happen?

Here's the truth.
You're not too old.
You're not too late.
And you already have all the talent you need.

The only thing standing between you and your film scoring career is doubt. And it's time to let it go.

Here’s a way to make your MIDI performances feel human.

Watch how cleaning up timing, velocities, and legato can transform a MIDI performance into something that feels real.
