"We believe that if each person commits to living our school's Five Core Values, we have the power to create an exceptional school." -- Mr. Doyle
is an independent charter school located at 221 N. Westmoreland Avenue, in an urban, mixed residential/commercial area in the City of Los Angeles. Although the school opened in September 2003, the planned school site at 221 N. Westmoreland was not completed in time, nor was the preferred temporary site available. As a result, the school held classes in a succession of locations in its first year, including the Salvation Army Recreation Center, the Angelica Church, and the second floor of Downtown Value School Elementary school. The Westmoreland site was not available for the 2004-2005 school year. This meant students had to be bused across town (a 45-minute freeway ride from their neighborhoods) to Westchester High School, a large LAUSD school, where classes were held on-campus in rented bungalows. For the following school year, 2005-2006, students were once again bused out of the community- this time to East Los Angeles where they attended classes in bungalows on the site of another charter school that had outgrown the location. The 2006-2007 school year started out in two different churches, Angelica Church for the ninth and tenth graders and Immanuel Presbyterian Church for the eleventh and twelfth graders. In April of 2007 Central City moved to its permanent location and current location. In June 2007, the school proudly graduated its first class. Recounting the story of Central City and the challenges that students, parents, staff and board members endured in its early years provides insight into the cohesive community which has developed at the school. Without a permanent location and a building to call its own, Central city became a school with a proud history and a shared vision, bound together by relationships and a common set of core values that all embraced. These factors contributed fundamentally to the development of the strong, caring school community that Central City now embodies. Central City has grown from the original eighty-seven ninth graders in 2003 to approximately 350 students enrolled in grades 9-12 for the Fall of 2009. Over the next five years Central City Value High School projects that its enrollment will increase to its maximum capacity of 480 students. However, the profile of its students is expected to remain the same. The students are mostly Hispanic and low-income with a significant number of English language learners.

Attention Students and Parents! Attached is the new Distance Learning Schedule that will start on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 and continue until further notice.
Below is the message from Mr. Doyle to Value Schools' families.
Good Afternoon Value Schools families,
I wanted to let you know that Value Schools will extend the closure of our schools until at least May 1. Our school leaders are working on the implications of that decision and will provide guidance to everyone shortly, just as we did last week when we announced the initial two-week closure. Please continue to encourage your children to engage with their teachers regarding academic work as teachers are continuing to provide educational opportunities. The state of California has cancelled academic statewide testing such as SBAC. We will continue to provide meals from 8am to 11am at our schools as we have been since March 16. We will continue to work together to meet our challenges! Be Safe.
[03/23/20] Value Schools has just informed Central City Value High School staff that the school will remain closed until at least May 1, 2020. In the meantime, there is no instruction this week, while "spring break" is on. We will resume distance learning instruction on Tuesday, March 31. Students, please check your school email accounts for updates from staff. Also parents, if you received an invitation from ParentSquare, please accept the invitation. This will allow Central City Staff to communicate with you in a manner that is more thorough than the present system. Also, download the ParentSquare app and you can see notifications and communications on it from Central City. If you did not receive a ParentSquare invite, please contact the front desk.

[05/25/19] Alumni from the Class of 2012 to the present, we need your help. High schools are now expected to track the college progress of their graduates, and as such, we have a service that helps us with that. However, they don’t always accurately report when a student receives a diploma, and we believe that the statistics that they provide are under-reported. If you are from the Class of 2012 to the present, and you have graduated (received a degree/diploma) from a 2 year or 4 year university, would you please be so kind as to take a photo of your diploma so that we can clearly see the information on it and email it to me at [email protected]? If you would prefer to send it via text, please email me for my cell phone number. It should be noted that your information will be used for school data purposes only, and will remain confidential. Thank you! Alvin Lamarre, Administrator.
