So many people feel uncomfortable offering corrections with language because they don’t want to offend others. That’s what I would want someone to do for me.

A language acquisition expert and pronunciation maestro with a keen ear for accents and a background in academic linguistics, Ruben has crafted a unique method to simplify phonetics and expedite language learning across five languages and counting. English is often a senseless language when it comes to pronunciation. The good news is there are patterns, tricks, and rules you may have never learned,

I always knew I could do voices but I didn't realize it was a superpower until I moved to Argentina at 22. I spent my time mimicking the local cadence and the specific Argentine rhythms just for fun until people actually started assuming I was from there. That was the click moment. It wasn't just about being a silly guy with an ear for actors like Jim Carrey anymore 🇦🇷

I realized then that an accent is more than just a sound; it’s a social key. Now when I hear a new voice I’m subconsciously mapping out the vowel shifts and the way words lean into each other to see how they connect to the languages I already know. This origin story is where that "click" first started 🚀

The same alphabet we share across English and Spanish is often the biggest hurdle to clear pronunciation

We see a T and our brain defaults to a lifetime of English habits. But letters are just interpretations of sounds... and sometimes, those interpretations get in our way

That’s why I use Espanglés. It’s a system of spelling manipulation. We take a familiar "anchor" from English, like the word "Today," and use its DNA to unlock the perfect Spanish "Tres."

It’s not about learning a new sound from scratch; it’s about finding the sound you already have and moving it to a new home. 🏠✨

Once you see the sounds beyond the letters, the confidence you’ve been chasing for years finally clicks.

Watch how we bridge the gap between "Today's" and "Tres" in this clip

What if your accent was a choice, not a mistake? ✨

I’ve spent years working alongside actors and high-level communicators, and the most successful ones all have one thing in common: They treat language like a costume

When you learn a new accent, you're making choices. You're deciding which sounds feel like "you" and which ones feel a bit too dramatic. You can indulge in a new character completely, or just find a new "shade" of yourself

That "mask" isn't there to hide you; it's there to set you freeee to be more expressive than ever before 🎭

Do you feel like a different person when you speak your target language? 🌍

"Accent Reduction" is my least favorite term. ❌

Think about it: Why would you want to reduce a part of your identity?

When we work on pronunciation, we aren’t subtracting; we’re adding. It’s not a removal; it’s a lateral move. It’s about building the skill to hold your native accent in one hand and your target accent in the other, and choosing which one to use🪞

I’m a student first. Whether I’m working on my Japanese, Polish, Korean or French, I’m not trying to "lose" myself. (well maybe figuratively, in the conversation 🤪) I’m just accent-modifying to connect deeper.

Are you holding onto your native accent while you learn? Can you switch between the two yet? Let’s talk about it in the comments. 👇

Apparently I can’t just "go on vacation"

My brain is always in scan mode 🇰🇭📖

People ask how I navigate a country when I’m not masterful in the language. As a linguist, I don't just learn words... I "hack" the phonology

After a week in Cambodia, I’ve put together a 3-step cheat sheet for anyone who wants to connect deeper than just a "hello." It’s about the mechanics, the idioms, and that specific Khmer rhythm

This is how a pronunciation specialist travels. It’s nerdy, it’s fun, and it changes the way you see the world 🌍✨

The English word "Family" is a linguistic trap 🪤

Most non-native speakers treat it like a 3-syllable word, but the "expert ear" knows that real fluency (particularly in English) is about what you *don't say. I'm sharing my 3-step breakdown to help you navigate the tricky sounds, featuring one of my favorite techniques "La Regla FEA"

It's simple, it's effective, and it works for nearly any language background 🌎

Got a word that always trips you up? Drop it in the comments! 🗣️

And say hi to your family for me 🤪🏠

If you think Argentinian Spanish sounds like Italian, you aren't imagining it... that’s Prosody, baby! 🇦🇷🎶

As a linguist and pronunciation specialist, I’m not just listening to the words you say; I’m listening to the music you’re 'singing.' Prosody is essentially the rhythm, connection, the pace, and melody of an accent, and in Buenos Aires, the 'tonito' (that iconic intonation) is everywhere.

It’s the hidden layer that gives the accent its soul. Once you understand the pattern, you stop just connecting Spanish words and start feeling the flow.

If you're curious about Argentinian dialect(s) or how to master el tonito, drop dem preguntas below. 👇

My brain doesn't really have an 📴 switch when it comes to accents 🎧🤷🏽

As a linguist and pronunciation specialist, watching _Heated Rivalry_ became a bit of a detective game. In the best way. I'm listening for the mechanics: where the tongue is placed, vowel shifts, and where natural English patterns start to peek through Connor's Russian.

There are a few very specific sounds that give the game away. Watch the breakdown and let me know if your ears caught the same things mine did 🕵🏽
