This can be hard because most of us weren't blessed with adults who knew how to do this.

Two Hand In Hand Tools spring to mind here; "Staylistening" is the art of holding space for children's emotions. We come in close with empathy and warmth, saying little to nothing at all, and allow them to offload in our warm, loving and attentive presence.

As we said, this is hard for many who weren't allowed their feelings or were sent off to "calm down".

"Listening Partnerships" is the Tool that allows us to be warmly Listened to as we work through those feelings of not being heard, of finding our children's emotions hard to deal with, and any and everything else.

Special Time is one of the Five Hand In Hand Tools... possibly our most famous!

Special Time is intensive one-on-one connection in which your child leads and you wholeheartedly follow, focussing on delighting in them.

It's not just quality time (which is very lovely as well), it's elevated by the timer that gives you both a clear expectation of length and that the special experience is in progress. It's a time where nothing else matters but that child in front of you, and just how wonderful they are. Try and let the rules be relaxed during this time so they feel the full benefit of leading and meeting their needs.

It need not be a long time. 15 minutes is a very reasonable timeframe, since you need to block out any other distractions for the duration. This also makes it possible to do daily or every other day, which is particular helpful if you and your child are having connection struggles. Special Time has been referred to as a "Connection Superfood".

Camp is available for four weeks in July. It's a flexible schedule - select the week(s) that work for your family!

You can drop your little ones off and know they'll have a great time (while you also have a summer break...) It's also a fun introduction to preschool for your toddler 😃

We are proud to provide the funding to present the districtwide Earth Fest on Saturday, April 19 from 10am-2pm. Organized by the El Rincon PTA, this zero waste event is FREE and open to all CCUSD students and their families. The festival includes nature programs, live animals, art & crafts, games, face painting and food for sale to celebrate Earth Day 2025. It’s sure to be fun for the whole family! 🌎
