We had the best time traveling out to Texas to visit our friends at Klein ISD! Building on the training family liaisons received in Science of Reading principles this summer, we explored strategies that families could use at home to support K-12 students. We loved the southern hospitality and can’t wait to head back soon! ⭐

Celebrating another wonderful family workshop at Stella Elementary Charter Academy! This session was focused on all things SBAC and some of the most important FAQs, including:

✔️What type of test is the SBAC?
✔️When is the test given and to whom?
✔️What do caregivers need to know to support their children’s success?

Here are a couple of fun tips we shared to give families some examples of how to incorporate “test prep” into their everyday routines:

💡Teach kids to read directions carefully. For example, if you're following a recipe at home, have them read the instructions and follow them step-by-step.
💡Teach kids how to read nonfiction and fiction, looking for evidence from the text. This encourages inferential thinking and questioning, which will be a crucial skillset for test success.

We had a wonderful time working with first and second grade teachers at Lexington Elementary in Pomona last week! We spent time reviewing student writing with the goal of finding strengths to celebrate. 🎉 So exciting to find that students were already trying craft moves from the mentor texts they read during immersion. Can’t wait to see what else they accomplish this school year! 🤓

“Aha,” indeed! We love a good anchor chart and just had to share this gem from Graves Middle School in South Whittier today! 😍 Designed to guide middle school students to deeply engage with texts, this is a quick and easy scaffold that’s sure to strengthen critical thinking and written responses.
