Sunrise Elementary School has been serving the children and families of the Boyle Heights community for over 20 years. In 2008, the school staff and community voted to join the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, a non-profit organization that supports public schools. in 2012, our long-time principal, Mr. Sandoval retired, and Ms. April Ramos-Olona began her tenure as principal. At this time, we also began to transition to the Common Core State Standards. In addition, we began to incorporate more Blended Learning, using computer-based programs like StMath, Lexia, and Achieve3000 to support student learning. We have 3 dedicated computer labs as well as computer centers in each classroom. In the spring of 2013, we won the Partnership for LA Schools StMath Competition. We celebrated this achievement with a Math Games Field Day event. That year, we also placed in the StMath national competition for school improvement and received additional iPads. In 2015, we won the Partnership Elementary School of the Year to recognize increased parent engagement, and improved student scores. In March of 2017, Mr. Luis Barraza began as our Principal. We look forward to what the future holds for our students.
