💙💛 A CAREER DEDICATED TO STUDENTS & WILSON!

Laura taught Physical Education at El Sereno Junior High (1977–1993) and Wilson High School (1993–2014), coached cheerleading at both schools, and beginning in 1999 served as a Physical Training Teacher alongside an LAPD officer for Wilson’s Police Academy Magnet. She inspired students with confidence, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.

📣 MAKING CHEERLEADING HISTORY!

In 1990, Laura led El Sereno JHS Cheer to its first National Cheer competition in Orlando, opening the door to years of out-of-state competitions. Wilson Cheer competed in Hawaii in 2005 and 2006 and was featured in American Cheerleading Magazine in 2002 in “Latin Divas!” The team competed nationally through 2012, guided by Discipline, Dedication, and Determination.

Laura credits supportive parents and Coach Gustavo Rodriguez’s choreography for the teams’ success. In 1991, she founded LA Spirit for local youth. It later became LA Pride under Takia Fox and is now California Pride All-stars under Sarah Fong.

🚔 A LEGACY BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Laura helped Police Academy Magnet students embrace LAPD values, fitness, and personal responsibility. Her greatest joy was seeing students accomplish what they once thought impossible. ❤️

🏡 Laura and her husband, Kelvin, raised three sons—all Wilson graduates: Jeremiah (’97), Matthew (’99), and Joshua (’01). All excelled in athletics. They have proudly called El Sereno home since 1983.
