We watched an interesting series from about making customers the heroes of their stories. Here are some takeaways:
Every customer you come into contact with is trying to solve a problem, and it's important to understand this before trying to sell them a product. The key is to invite customers into a story rather than simply selling to them. Every good story starts with a problem, and stories are about heroes who are up against big challenges.
To begin, you need to identify your customer's problem. Remember, your customers are not coming to you to buy a product, but to solve a problem. Think of yourself as a trusted guide, helping them navigate their problem.
Once you have identified their problem, position your product as the solution. Build a bridge from the customer's problem to your solution. Provide a clear step-by-step vision or plan of what the customer's life would look like using your product.
Create a sense of urgency by including talking points in your sales conversation that instill a sense of urgency. Talk about what would be gained or lost if they do or do not buy your product. This will help customers realize how much they need your product to solve their problems.
Call the customer to action by clearly challenging them to get into the game and take action. Simply saying, “I think you should buy this today,” can make a big difference.
Success happens for those who know how to make the customer the hero and invite them into a story. Remember, it's not about selling a product, it's about helping your customer solve their problem.
Let's make our customers the heroes of their stories!
