The meeting report from the Preventing Silicosis Conference hosted by the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health - COEH in May 2024 is now available.
The report summarizes the conference presentations, discussions and strategies to address the epidemic of silicosis among engineered stone workers, and makes recommendations for first steps in California.

During National Public Health Week, UCLA's Industrial Hygiene Association (IHSA) hosted an interactive educational session to educate the campus community about workplace and community hazards as well as the various types of personal protective equipment available to minimize exposure to hazards.
Donning and doffing the fall arrest system was a highlight among students! Way to go IHSA at highlighting the industrial hygiene profession!

Save the Date for our Preventing Silicosis Conference at UCLA on May 16th!
We will bring together affected workers, manufacturers, researchers, and other stakeholders to develop solutions to prevent silicosis caused by artificial stone.
The goal is to develop a research agenda and a concrete set of recommendations that could be implemented in the California context and shared with other impacted communities.

Our Center’s winter Clinical Case Conference for our academic programs was a great experience!
Students and faculty from Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health Nursing, and Occupational Medicine discussed a case of a local refinery explosion to learn how each profession plays a role in workplace disaster management.
