Friends, for an easier fast on Yom Kippur, try the following Friday day/night:
1) Drink lots of water; not alcohol!
2) Don't stuff yourself to try to compensate for the fast-- eat reasonable portions of protein (chicken, meat, fish), complex carbs/veggies (yams, brown rice, eggplant, artichokes), fruit (fresh apricots, plums, pears), legumes (lentils, kidney beans, peas, garbanzos, soybeans) and some healthy oils/fats. Avoid simple sugars (i.e. candy, cookies, cakes) that will spike your blood sugar and make you feel hungry.
3) Avoid salty/spicy foods

Chef Verati, author of "My Ideal Recipes", created this delicious low-carb recipe for Korean Steak. Enjoy!
1 1/2 pounds beef tenderloin lean
3 cups mushroom whole
2 cups asparagus blanched
3 cups green onions sliced
1 tablespoon garlic crushed
2 tablespoons Walden Farms Fruit Spread chopped
1 1/2 tablespoons sesame oil
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
sea salt to taste
pepper to taste
Combine, green onion, garlic, fruit spread, vinegar, and soy sauce. Add beef tenderloin and marinate in the refrigerator overnight.
Grill steaks to desired doneness. Grill vegetables for a few minutes.
Remove green onions from the marinade. Cook slowly in a pan, draining any fat. Serve the cooked green onions on top of the steaks. Arrange grilled vegetables on the side.
(Per serving: 360 calories, 17g fat, 41g protein, 12g carbohydrate)
