I start each semester with a reminder: students be prepared for the weather, because we are technically outdoors still.

My fingers were so cold I couldn’t type, even with gloves yesterday.

Note:

*The county knows we don’t have air or heat.

*My class is too big for me to purchase a space heater or two with my own money. Nor should I have to.

*Move to another class? Mine is not the only without heat.

To Sir With Love…this was the first film I saw featuring Sidney Portier. He modeled the patience and grace towards students and people in that movie that also reflected his humble demeanor in life. Rest in paradise. #

Is the coast clear? On those super hard days we all get our cars and see who is brave enough to leave the parking lot early first. Won’t be me! First is the worst, second is the best! In fact, someone yesterday someone told me they were looking at me to bust a move, I said “but I was waiting on you…but then look at God’s grace, He moved Ms. Jenkins’ heart and foot to the gas pedal first.” Now we can go. LEGOOOOOO

ABACADABA This is what I used to take tests growing up and frankly, I loved them. Some teachers hate these because they represent high stakes tests, but at the time I loved them for the cool designs I could make with the bubbles when I didn’t know the answers. 😜😜🤪

Have you placed: play chess with a partner, on your choice board yet? I consider it a brain development activity that helps to build logic, abstract, foresight thinking. The students absolutely love it and have invited students to my class during lunch to play quick games. If you want some quick tips read more below. 👇🏽

-purchase the small magnetic boards from $10-$13 this way the pieces don’t roll everywhere (students are clumsy)
-check your local thrift shop for even better deals
-add this to your choice/menu for students to play as an incentive for completed work.
-have students take a picture of their board if they don’t finish their game
-play a game or two with them.
-avoid digital games…get them off the screens for a moment
-create a mini tournament
-be encouraging to those who want to learn, reward those who teach others how to play
