President Obama by proclamation two days ago on Sunday until sunset Thursday as a gesture of solidarity with France orders the American flag to be flown at half-staff. The Los Angeles City College campus American flag is improperly flown.

Who raised our American flag on this morning, November 17, 2015? The law enforcement on this campus is responsible for displaying the American flag. This is scary. We are existing in challenging times with both domestic terror and foreign terror. For me to see sloppiness in displaying our pride and honor is in itself terrorizing. Some ones among us wait for us to let our guard down. I don’t have much, but I do have my American duty regardless of my economic and social status in this society. These some ones are fu***ng with us.
This is a perfect example of how our American institution is being undermined. Is this improper position on the flag staff intentional, cultural, lingual, or just stupid? Is our American flag improperly flown as a signal to others who appreciate when America looks bad?
This improper and disrespectful display of the Stars and Stripes is spit into the face of all Americans who are currently serving for the American flag and who have previously served for the American flag.
United States Code, Title 4 in Chapter 1 at Section 7m instructs on the “POSITION AND MANNER OF DISPLAY” of the American flag:
(m) The flag, when flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position.

The flag should be again raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day. On Memorial Day the flag should be displayed at half-staff until noon only, then raised to the top of the staff. By order of the President, the flag shall be flown at half-staff upon the death of principal figures of the United States Government and the Governor of a State, territory, or possession, as a mark of respect to their memory. In the event of the death of other officials or foreign dignitaries, the flag is to be displayed at half-staff according to Presidential instructions or orders, or in accordance with recognized customs or practices not inconsistent with law. In the event of the death of a present or former official of the government of any State, territory, or possession of the United States or the death of a member of the Armed Forces from any State, territory, or possession who dies while serving on active duty, the Governor of that State, territory, or possession may proclaim that the National flag shall be flown at half-staff, and the same authority is provided to the Mayor of the District of Columbia with respect to present or former officials of the District of Columbia and members of the Armed Forces from the District of Columbia. When the Governor of a State, territory, or possession, or the Mayor of the District of Columbia, issues a proclamation under the preceding sentence that the National flag be flown at half-staff in that State, territory, or possession or in the District of Columbia because of the death of a member of the Armed Forces, the National flag flown at any Federal installation or facility in the area covered by that proclamation shall be flown at half-staff consistent with that proclamation. The flag shall be flown at half-staff 30 days from the death of the President or a former President; 10 days from the day of death of the Vice President, the Chief Justice or a retired Chief Justice of the United States, or the Speaker of the House of Representatives; from the day of death until interment of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, a Secretary of an executive or military department, a former Vice President, or the Governor of a State, territory, or possession; and on the day of death and the following day for a Member of Congress. The flag shall be flown at half-staff on Peace Officers Memorial Day, unless that day is also Armed Forces Day. As used in this subsection—
Let us become rigorous in our guard, correct the display of the American flag, and continue to battle the Evil that watches and waits for us to not care about ourselves.

Please join us on Tuesday

10/22/2015

This afternoon's LACC Veterans Club leadership meeting was very encouraging. The team approved two resolutions, the first was to work with the outreach mission of a military unit based in Southern California to provide homeless veterans in Los Angeles with a thanksgiving meal on Thanks Giving Day 2015. The next was to actively promote the Veterans Appreciation event on LACC's campus on 11/10/2015 in a coordinated veteran to veteran effort. The lunch meal, sponsored by the LACC Senate and the LACC Foundation will be free to LACC's Veteran community. The college wide community, Faculty, Staff and Students will be asked to donate $5 or more when joining us for lunch.
Once lunch is served the LACC based group, "Veterans Got Tallent" will be entertaining everyone with poetry, dance, spoken -word and music. This "show" will be free to everyone who attends.
PLEASE promote this announcement to all your friennds on your page..

Greetings All,

A new PBS Special is being filmed and it has been requested that Southern California schools participate in the documentary. Please see the email below and reach out to Mr. Palmieri if you or members of your chapter are interested. For any further questions please call 202-223-4710.

Best regards,
Bawo Ayomike

I am writing to announce an exciting new PBS documentary examining the experience of Latinos during the Vietnam War. ON TWO FRONTS: Latinos in Vietnam will air nationally on PBS as part of its primetime line-up for Hispanic Heritage Month in September 2015.

This first-ever feature-length PBS film focusing on Latino veterans and their service in Vietnam offers an important opportunity to educate all Americans about the rich legacy of Latino military service in the U.S.

With funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, our organization, Impact Media Partners, is honored to lead a national community engagement campaign in conjunction with this long-awaited PBS broadcast.

We would like to extend and invitation to you and Student Veterans of America to be a participant at our first community strategy meeting for ON TWO FRONTS: Latinos in Vietnam. Your participation in this half-day meeting will help ensure that we create materials and activities that are well informed by the important work you do on the ground. I would appreciate your help in reaching out to them.

The meeting will include representation from community-based organizations, public sector agencies, educators, public television stations (including PBS SoCaL), and other relevant cultural institutions.

Hosted by campaign partner La Plaza De Cultura y Artes, the meeting will take place on Friday, February 27 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at La Plaza’s beautiful campus adjacent to Olvera Street in downtown Los Angeles. We are pleased to provide lunch to all participants!

The attached letter contains additional details about both the meeting and the campaign, and I would be very happy to speak with you directly to answer any questions you may have.
We sincerely hope that Student Veterans of America will join us for this important convening.

Warm regards,
Dennis

NOTE: There is no fundraising associated with this campaign, and no cost to participate in the meeting or subsequent activities.
