Join the board and long-time members for our annual New and Recent Member Welcome party! This year we're extending the welcome not only to brand-new grads, but also to folks who have come out to LA in the last few years. There will be a raffle, heavy Oktoberfest-themed snacks, and an open bar.

Please keep an eye on the official U Drama socials for information on honoring Kaf and any local memorials in NY or LA. We will keep you updated as well. Our hearts are with Kaf’s family, friends and the great number of people she touched with her gifts.

It is with great sadness that the School of Drama announces the passing of Kaf Warman. Kaf joined the School of Drama in 1996 as a Teaching Professor of Movement, specializing in physical approaches to acting. Well-known in movement theater circles for her work with the neutral mask, commedia dell’arte and clowning, Kaf left an indelible mark on her students here at CMU and around the world.

Prior to joining the faculty at Carnegie Mellon, Kaf spent nine years as Associate Artistic Director of Island Theatre Workshop, Inc., the longest continuously operating theater company on Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., directing up to six shows a year. In 2009 she was named Artistic Director of the company. She had guest professor/director positions at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland, California Institute of the Arts, UC Irvine, the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre, the University of Maine at Orono and Goddard College, where she received her BA and MA in Theatre.

Kaf was a graduate of the two-year professional training program at the École Jacques Lecoq School of Movement, Mime and Theatre in Paris, France, and was one of the first three students invited by Jacques Lecoq to attend a third pedagogical year.

Kaf’s impact on the School of Drama is profound, and she leaves an incredible legacy through the hundreds of students she nurtured, trained, and prepared for careers in the performing arts.

She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who benefited from her artistry, passion, and friendship.

The School of Drama is planning a memorial to celebrate Kaf's life and legacy. More information will be forthcoming.

Hey angels - with the new school year coming around you're going to see a lot of inspiring alumni work to celebrate our students no matter what year they graduated!!

Let's start tonight with someone many of you know, Emanuel Treason (Manny), featured in the latest Lighting and Sound America. CMU Lighting Design alum and Partner at NYXdesign, Manny is the lighting designer and the media consultant on The Legends of Luna project for all the new phase four lodges. The Baltimore/Perrysville locale at Great Wolf Lodge is the first installation of the design. The next lodges are being built this year are in Webster TX and Naples FL.

It is a themed show set inside the resort's' main bobby running 17 minutes. He designed all the lighting in the lobby, both architectural and theatrical, including custom designed chandeliers in the lobby which contains a lot of theatrical technology that is totally hidden from guests view.

He also helped to craft all of the generative elements of the project. This is an exciting new tool he is using to craft both lighting and animated elements within an immersive experience like this lobby.

Hey yall! We're so excited to invite you our April event: the West Coast Premiere of the Broadway Production of FAT HAM has arrived in Los Angeles along with alum Nikki Crawford, one of the show's stars. WCDCAC has secured a block of tickets on Wednesday, April 24 at The Geffen!

These section A mezzanine seats are normally $100 each, but we are offering them for just $40 each to dues paying members. (Pay dues here!)

We will also have the opportunity to participate in the talk back after the show with Nikki and the cast.
