The space of leaning, for me it’s when I’m a little out of my depth. Challenged but in a space where I know I’m encouraged, supported. how else can you hold this pose long enough to learn all its secrets?! That is one of the purposes of props in the Iyengar practice. Padmasana! This one takes patience, prep and a taming of the ego! it doesn't come easily to many people. I know lots of folks that hurt their knees badly when attempting Lotus. Here is a way to approach the pose gently and methodically. You don't have to avoid the pose, but you do have to respect the body and be patient. The benefits of the pose are worth it!
