In my Scene Study classes on Zoom we normally pair up—and students choose scenes from films and tv shows to do two at a time. But this time we decided to all join together and do our version of one tv show, the mockumentary, Abbott Elementary.
I absolutely insist that when I direct a show with students, everyone gets a featured role. So I wrote extra characters with additional dialogue while borrowing some of the original script as well.
This extended trailer is a little over 8 minutes long but will give you a peek at each of the participants performances. The full length show (about 35 minutes) will be broadcast on Twitch on Sunday at 2:00 pm Pacific Time. Meet me there at www.Twitch.tv/actingclass.

And just like that, the strike is over and it’s back to work. I’m leaving for Hawaii Dec. 3 and we’ll be shooting until Dec. 22. Seems Todd will be doing quite a few episodes, but we shall see. This was a surprise that it is happening so soon. Thanksgiving then a quick trip to see Kristi while she is in San Diego before heading to Oahu. This will be challenging but exciting. I got so used to being sedentary while working from home. Here we go!!!

Zoom classes for beginners to advanced actors are starting every 5 weeks. Join me! Here is an excerpt from Intro class, working with a brand new actor.
WORDS HAVE POWER! They’re always changing. BE each word, changing as they change. This gives your work variety. As you become your words, you become your character. Watch the difference that happens in just one session. Define each word with thoughts & imagery. BE YOUR WORDS!!!
This new actor in the Intro to Acting Class is working on her first monologue in her first acting class. We went through each line, finding the meaning and power in each line…each word. It’s really a magical process. Everything needed is right there in the text. She gives life to the words (with her character’s thoughts) and the words give meaning to her character. They require those thoughts that in turn trigger the specific emotions and expressions that create layered nuances and compelling character. All it takes is some careful exploration. Ok into her eyes. You’ll be able to see when she’s thinking what each words means and when she misses one. Watch the WHOLE video and pay careful attention. It’s sure to help you with your monologue.
