AUDITION BOOT CAMP breaks down your musical theatre audition process moment to moment, from entering the room, to speaking to your accompanist with clarity onto finding the right focal point, managing a graceful exit, and all points in between. You know, all the stuff you never rehearse after you learn your music. Kathy’s class is the only class out there that deals in the one area where actors tend to shoot themselves in the foot – what to do in the audition room when you are not singing or reading your sides. Of course she also helps you with your performance and gives advice on appropriate material. But honestly, your entrance into the room, the dialogue between songs with the CD and your interaction with the accompanist are just as important. Kathy makes sure that you feel as entitled and prepared to enter the room as you are to sing your 16 bars. She calls you out on your “tells” and addressed your audition-specific tension. Now instead of frantically rushing through hellos and awkwardly starting your material, she allows you to feel prepared, calm and ready to take ownership of YOUR five minutes in that room. KATHY DEITCH made her LA acting debut at the Hollywood Bowl in RENT directed by Neil Patrick Harris & played Catherine/Senator Martin in the LA cast of Silence! The Musical (LA Weekly Award). Broadway credits include WICKED (original company), FOOTLOOSE (original Urleen); HAIR at both City Center’s Encores! and European Tour (Crissy). On Tv, she's appeared as Rose in the musical episode of RAISING HOPE, played a Young Ethel Darling in AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW this fall. In film, she's opposite Modern Family's Eric Stonestreet in the thriller LOFT and recently shot MAGIC MIKE XXL with Matt Bomer, both out in theaters this year. Online, she stars in the zombie web series PROJECT:PHOENIX and her blog COOL GIRL IS DEAD has been presented as a solo-performance reading on both coasts. She has brought her Audition Boot Camp to students of all ages across the country, from those who traveled to New York City with Broadway Classroom, to those via Skype through Broadway U. Top theatre programs have invited her to teach their best and brightest, including Wagner College, UCLA, Pace University and University of Hartford. She's been a special guest of VocalizeU, Los Alamitos High School's top ranking show choirs, and at the School of Rock and Stella Adler Conservatory, both in New York City and Los Angeles. She was a teaching artist for the Queens Theatre in the Park CASA program and helped develop the Educational Outreach Program for Broadway Inspirational Voices, founded by Michael McElroy. In addition to musically directing for Jaxx Theatricals all over the Los Angeles area this semester, she's also a Teaching Artist for the Young Storytellers Movie Making Program at USC's 32nd Street Magnate School.
