An epic Friday BBQ was the perfect way to wrap up Week 1 of Summer Program 2026!

Between the all-you-can-eat Perry Dogs, face painting, music, colorful decorations, and the energy our CITs and counselors brought all day long, it was a day full of fun, laughter, and everything that makes JTD so special.

Last week, we welcomed the Class of 2020 back to campus for a special reunion before they begin their next chapter. It was a joy to see classmates reconnect, catch up with former teachers and parents, and reflect on the friendships and memories that began at JTD.

As these alumni prepare for what's next, we are proud of the resilience, growth, and accomplishments they have demonstrated since their time at JTD -- especially as their elementary years ended with a drive-in graduation! We look forward to cheering them on in the years ahead!

The school year may be over, but summer is just beginning!

Summer Program officially kicked off yesterday, and campers wasted no time diving into a full day of activities, creativity, and fun. It was a great start to the season, and we can't wait to see what the weeks ahead have in store.

We can’t wait to see where your journey takes you next.

Today’s final morning assembly marked the end of the school year and the last Salutation of the Dawn for the Class of 2026 as JTD students.

As they prepare to leave the hill, we hope they carry with them the lessons, friendships, and memories that have shaped their time at JTD. Yesterday may now feel like a dream, but we know the time they spent here will remain a source of happiness for years to come. And while tomorrow is still only a vision, it is one filled with hope, possibility, and the promise of new adventures.

The morning also included the unveiling of the Class Gift, inspired by Golden Leaves, a collection of letters written by John Thomas Dye during World War II. The acrylic tree, adorned with leaves created from the pages of the book, will stand as a lasting reminder of the stories, wisdom, and experiences that connect generations of Greyhounds.

Congratulations, Class of 2026! We wish you all the best on the journey ahead.

Grade 5 students recently brought history to life during the return of JTD’s Night at the Museum: We the People event. After weeks of research, students transformed into influential figures from American history, sharing their knowledge with family members, staff, and special guests. Through interactive presentations, students demonstrated their ability to analyze historical events, consider multiple perspectives, and connect the lives of historical figures to broader themes studied throughout the year. The event showcased not only students' research and public speaking skills, but also their creativity, collaboration, and enthusiasm for learning. We are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication our fifth graders displayed as they turned our school into a living museum of history.

Grade 2 stepped back in time during their field trip to the La Brea Tar Pits as part of their social studies unit, Our Changing Landscape. Students explored how this part of Los Angeles has transformed over thousands of years while examining fossils of animals that once roamed the region but are now extinct. Seeing these discoveries up close helped bring classroom conversations about geography, history, and change over time to life in a memorable way.

Congratulations to our Grade 6 cast and crew on a wonderful production of Once Upon a Mattress! Months of rehearsals culminated in a performance that had students, teachers, and parents shouting “Bravo” to the Class of 2026!

As we continue celebrating AAPI Heritage Month this May, we were thrilled to welcome K-pop choreographers from Jam Republic as part of TeachAAPI’s Cultural Roadshow! Students had the incredible opportunity to learn from choreographers who have worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry, bringing their talent, energy, and passion to our school community.

We are especially grateful that many of our JTD parents are founding and active members of TeachAAPI, helping create meaningful cultural experiences and opportunities for our students.

We are proud to be a member school of TeachAAPI and grateful for opportunities that celebrate culture, creativity, and representation.
