The sun wasn’t quite up, but Grade 6 certainly was! Our sixth graders got an early morning surprise for one of JTD’s favorite traditions, the Grade 6 Surprise Breakfast. After arriving on campus at the crack of dawn, students received their Class sweatshirts, decorated their parents’ cars, and capped off the morning with a parade in front of the school during Morning Assembly. An early start to a very special year for the Class of 2027!

Student Council candidates stepped up to the microphone today to share their ideas with fellow students! From preparing their remarks to speaking in front of their peers, each candidate showed courage, creativity, and a willingness to take on a leadership role at JTD. We’re proud of everyone who put themselves forward and made their voice heard!

On Sunday, JTD families, faculty, staff, and even a few alumni gathered at the Rose Bowl for the PSV Back to School Picnic! From visits at the JTD booth to Ms. Helm joining fellow Heads of School for a round of musical chairs, it was a fun afternoon connecting with the broader independent school community!

Today was the first Free Dress Day of the year! Our Greyhounds had fun switching things up and showing a little extra personality around campus today!

Today’s Cultural Assembly took us on a musical journey through South America with harpist Alfredo Rolando Ortiz! Through World Adventures with My Harp, students heard lively music from Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, and Paraguay while learning about the Paraguayan harp, how it is constructed, and Alfredo’s own journey of migration, challenge, and success. A wonderful way to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month through music and storytelling!

Last week, Grade 6 traded the classroom for Catalina Island during their annual trip to the Catalina Island Marine Institute! With the island and ocean as their classroom, students explored marine science and island ecology through hands-on Labs both indoors and out. They snorkeled along the coast, experienced the ocean after dark during a night snorkel, headed out on a night hike, and challenged themselves on the climbing wall.

Yesterday, Grade 5 traded the classroom for a different kind of challenge at the UCLA Challenge Course!

Throughout the day, students tackled a series of individual and team activities designed to get them thinking outside the box. They worked together to crack puzzles and discover hidden patterns, carefully distributed their weight across a giant balance board to keep it level for 10 seconds, and took on a series of high ropes challenges that pushed them beyond their comfort zones.

Each activity called for something a little different: communication, problem-solving, trust, perseverance, and the courage to try. It was a great opportunity for Grade 5 to challenge themselves, support one another, and Level Up together!

The PA year is officially underway!

Last week’s PA Kick-Off brought JTD parents together to discover the many ways to get involved in the year ahead. From the big reveals of this year’s Fair and Special Event themes to Logo Wear, Book Club, Sustainable Uniform, Library, and so many other committees, there was plenty to explore!

Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who shared their time, ideas, and enthusiasm, and to everyone who stopped by to learn more. We can’t wait to see all that our PA committees have in store for JTD this year!

We have liftoff! 🚀 This morning, JTD blasted into this year’s Fair theme: Blast Off JTD!

Yaz made his grand entrance in full space gear before our Fair Kids took center stage to model this year’s Fair wear and officially launch the countdown to one of our favorite JTD traditions.

The mission is set. The countdown is on. Blast Off JTD!

An epic Friday BBQ was the perfect way to wrap up Week 1 of Summer Program 2026!

Between the all-you-can-eat Perry Dogs, face painting, music, colorful decorations, and the energy our CITs and counselors brought all day long, it was a day full of fun, laughter, and everything that makes JTD so special.
