Carlisle is closing.

Mike and Kendall Officer announced that they plan to close Carlisle Vineyards and Winery.

Mike explains that he has been making wine for four decades and would like to enjoy his golden years.

While the couple entertained numerous offers from people who wanted to buy the brand, they did not find the right buyer.

The future of the Carlisles’ own 9.5-acre estate vineyard in Russian River Valley is up in the air.

While Officer said the couple are committed through this year’s harvest, he anticipates it will take a few years before Carlisle releases the 2024 vintage and sells through its existing inventory.

Rombauer was purchased by Gallo.

Rombauer is one of the best-selling U.S wine brands that ignited America’s buttery Chardonnay craze.

Gallo is the largest wine brand in the world, producing 83 million cases of wine per year. Gallo's wines are sold in over 100 countries around the world.

While Gallo is family-owned, the sale is the latest in a string of corporate takeovers that many fear are changing the fabric of Napa Valley’s multi-generational wine industry.

Gallo owns:
Barefoot Cellars, Apothic, Dark Horse, Columbia Winery, William Hill Estate, J Vineyards, Louis M. Martini, MacMurray Estate, Orin Swift, Bridlewood Estate, Carnivor, Edna Valley Vineyard, Talbott, Frei Brothers, Mirassou, La Marca Prosecco, Talus Collection, Starborough, The Ranch, Ghost Pines, Ecco Domani, New Amsterdam Vodka, Familia Camarena Tequila, High Noon Sun Sips, Diplomático Rum (partial ownership).

Something that does not happen every day..
The FBI raided a renowned Manhattan wine store - Sherry-Lehmann

The FBI searched Park Avenue wine retailer Sherry-Lehmann Wine & Spirits on July 19, 2023.

Sherry-Lehmann is the subject of a criminal investigation by the Justice Department. It faces lawsuits from customers for alleged failure to deliver prepaid wine, is delinquent on $2.8 million in taxes, and reportedly could be evicted from its midtown store. It also shut down after getting a cease-and-desist order from regulators for selling liquor without a license.

Sherry-Lehmann owns Wine Caves, a wine storage facility. They are accused of removing highly valued wines from customer’s lockers and selling those bottles to other customers.

Sherry-Lehmann was long considered the gatekeeper to the US market for brands from around the world. Its founders, brothers Jack and Sam Aaron, changed what New Yorkers drank, introducing them to Dom Perignon and Bordeaux’s Chateau Petrus. The store became the wine-buying destination for the city’s elite. Celebrities like Mick Jagger and Greta Garbo bought their wines from the company, as did billionaires and wine collectors. The store became the wine-buying destination for the city’s elite. It has been in business for 89 years.
