This year, composer, singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Laufey is bringing her love of reading to Library Card Sign-Up Month as its 2026 honorary chair. International Literacy Day is celebrated annually on September 8. This year marks the 60th anniversary of International Literacy Day, which was first proclaimed by UNESCO in 1966 to emphasize the important role literacy plays in creating a more literate, peaceful, just, and sustainable society.
