Over the years, I’ve intentionally expanded the ways I serve as Santa. Today, I operate across seven distinct service areas, and here’s the key:
each one is marketed differently, to a different ideal client, with a different purpose.
Early on, the core of my work was in-person home and company visits. For many years, I averaged right around 100 personal appearances each season, which included paid visits and not-for-profit appearances. That foundation mattered—it taught me how to deliver a meaningful, authentic Santa experience in real living rooms, offices, and community spaces.
Around 2012, I began expanding beyond that single lane. I leaned into video messages and live video visits, and that expansion accelerated dramatically during the pandemic. Today, those virtual offerings—primarily through Zoom, Skype, and Teams—are a major part of my work.
From there, additional service areas naturally emerged:
• Entertainment industry work: television commercials, music videos, TV shows, and related projects
• Upsells and enhancements for clients, such as providing a throne or add-on video messages
• Social media as a direct revenue stream, not just an advertising channel
• Brand ambassadorships, working directly with companies aligned with the Santa brand
• Not-for-profit and mission-driven appearances, woven intentionally into each area of impact
Some of these streams generate income. Some are about service, visibility, or long-term opportunity. Together, they form a balanced ecosystem.
The marketing for each stream is very deliberate. The goal isn’t to be everywhere—it’s to be found by the right people in each lane. That includes:
• A strong, marketing-oriented website
• Platforms like GigSalad and others where specific clients are already searching
• Industry-specific positioning for entertainment and brand work
• Social media used both for visibility and direct monetization
Here’s what that looked like last year:
• 1,000+ video messages
• Nearly 100 live virtual visits
• Fewer than 20 in-person personal appearances
And here’s the part that matters most to me…
I had more fun than ever.
I had more time with my family and my grandkids.
I showed up for Christmas concerts, school events, and real life.
And the work produced over $44,000 in income.
It was hands-down the best season I’ve ever had—not because I worked more, but because I worked smarter, more intentionally, and more aligned with how I want to live.
This is exactly the kind of approach we teach at the Worldwide Santa Claus Network—how to think beyond a single income stream and build a sustainable, joyful Santa business.
