This scene. 💔 Heartbreaking.
I remember once being in a casting office, reading for a role, while the cd behind the audition table was eating a salad.
The crunching and munching completely distracted me. How rude, right? My audition was terrible. I remember feeling so disappointed because I had put so much work into preparing, driven all that way and back, only to be completely thrown by the noise.
And I didn’t say anything. I didn’t bring it up. I just carried on.
I think, sometimes, actors can feel like we’re seen as “A Dime A Dozen “ so desperate for the job that we’re expected to put up with a certain amount of crap or rudeness for fear of upsetting someone or losing an opportunity.
But actors deserve to be treated with respect too.
We put in the work. We prepare. We show up vulnerable and ready to give something of ourselves. Those behind the audition table should remember that.
If this happened to me today? I know I’d have no problem politely saying, “Can we start again?”But now we tape our auditions from home, but I really, really miss being in the room!
