These two wonderful events brought to you by QPH:
First Annual Blood Donation Panel (Tuesday, May 22 from 12-1pm) - QPH, the Reproductive Health Interest Group (RHIG), the LGBT Resource Center, and OUTLaw are hosting a lunchtime discussion about the FDA's ban on blood donations from men who have s*x with men (MSM). The discussion panel features Dr. Shira Shafir from the SPH Epidemiology Division, Dr. Alyssa Ziman from the UCLA Blood and Platelet Center, and Gregory Davis from the School of Law. Boxed lunches will be provided for the first 60 attendees. This exciting discussion will be held in CHS 43-105.
Lunchtime Lecture (Wednesday, May 23 from 12-1pm) - Recent reports from the Institute of Medicine and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have highlighted disparities on multiple health status indicators, including disease states and health behaviors, among le****ns, bis*xual and heteros*xual women in the U.S. As the provision of medically and culturally appropriate care may be dependent on a provider's awareness of a patient's s*xual orientation, fear of disclosure of s*xual orientation to healthcare providers may be among the factors explaining the prevalence of poor health markers among s*xual minority women. Dr. Durso's presentation will review evidence of health disparities among le****ns and bis*xual women, highlight research linking disclosure of s*xual orientation to health markers, and present new research examining factors predicting the disclosure of s*xual orientation to healthcare providers among s*xual minority women. Join the UCLA Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Equity and QPH in 33-105. Snacks and refreshments will be provided!
Hey everyone, don't forget about brunch on this Sunday morning! RSVP to Dave Clark by Thursday, and email QPH if you need a ride!
