For LATTC Fashion Design alumna Jessica Thompson, learning the art of tailoring opened the door to an entirely new career path—and ultimately to some pretty incredible opportunities. 🧵🪡✨

After building her skills at Trade-Tech, Jessica went on to become a member of IATSE Local 705, work in film and television, and grow her own clothing line. Most recently, she served as lead tailor on HBO's "Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness," where she had the extraordinary opportunity to fit a suit for former President Barack Obama.

Her story is a powerful reminder that adding one new skill can open pathways you never imagined.

Congratulations, Genaro Molina! The LA Times Staff Photographer recently won first place in the artistic photo category for his image of LATTC's Powerline Mechanic program, featuring our very own students. 📸

In all, The Times received 30 first-place awards across a wide range of categories, including breaking news, best podcast, immigration reporting, best newsletter, feature story, music reporting, and public service journalism, among others.

Did you know Trade-Tech does transfer? ➡️ 🏫

While many know us for our stellar career technical education offerings, over 450 LATTC grads successfully transferred to CSU, UC, in-state private, and out-of-state colleges last year. Swipe through to see the faces of some of this year’s grads who are university bound! 👉🏽

📸 1. Artie Alidust will pursue Anthropology at UCLA. He’s passionate about the dig and would love to work out in the field or teach. 🪏

📸 2. Makailah Jenkins will be at CSU Dominguez Hills where she’ll study Sociology in pursuit of becoming a high school counselor. Her mom, Assemblymember Sade Elhawary joins her here in celebrating her achievement. 🫱🏾‍🫲🏽

📸 3. Monique Parie is transferring to UC Davis. Raised in South LA, she has a passion for community and with her interests in education, community development, and political science, she plans to bring her expertise back home to her community. 🌆

📸 4. Jodie Duvernay will pursue a path to becoming an elementary school teacher at CSUN this Fall. LATTC is in all in the family and her daughter will begin as a Fashion Merchandising student this Fall. 📚

📸 5. Bryanna Martinez will pursue her degree in social work at USC this Fall. Born in South LA, Bryanna is proud of her community and has faithfully worked in the Bucky’s Lounge Basic Needs Center during her time here at Trade-Tech. 👥

We’re celebrating—and representing—Bucky Beaver today on this National Mascot Day. 🦫⚡️

Bucky is beloved by the Trade-Tech community, not just because he’s cute, but because of what he stands for as a symbol of industriousness. Hard work, productivity, and devotion to tasks are what defines a Trade-Tech student and it remains a legacy that our grads take with them. You can take the grad out of Trade-Tech, but you can’t take the Trade-Tech—or Bucky!—out of the grad.
