Open Window Touring Children's Theatre

After feeling compelled to create this shape in our mashed potatoes last night, this morning we found our selves here in Wyoming near the Montana border.👽🛸Do-do-do-do-dooo🎶

Open Window has not been actively producing shows for some time. However, we would like to join with our fellow citizens to mourn the systemic injustices for people of color. We have always believed that theatre can change the world, and theatre for young audiences can be mighty and motivating. A great deal of our mission is driven by the belief that all stories deserve a hearing. We believe that empathetic listening can lead to understanding and action. Please know that we have taken many multicultural shows such as Sounds of the Underground Railroad, and African Americans of Courage, to school audiences, as well as shows highlighting Latinx, Native American and Asian traditions. We believe in representation is important and our hiring practices reflected this. We call upon the theatre community at large to do a better job at all levels of organization and creative efforts to engage in fair and just practice.

Yes, that's what we think, too.

"Where do I get this book?" Some of our shows adapted from literature even end on a cliff-hanger, directing children to the original. Now...go read something for fun!

Storytelling is not just whimsy. If children don't hear stories, how will they gain the skills to communicate well in whatever profession they choose? Oh, yeah, right…hire a corporate storyteller to train them…OR... maybe tell children fairytales,and/or send children to play outside and make up stories of their own where everyone gets a part. Just sayin'. (Gotta say its fun to find support for storytelling in Business mags and journals.)
