The Russian Submachine Gun That Tried to Master Five 9mm Cartridge Families.

Developed in 1995 and introduced in 1997, the Gepard was an experimental Russian submachine gun. Its AKS-74U-derived design attempted to accommodate several 9mm cartridge types using specialized chamber and operating-system components. The complexity of that approach limited its appeal to potential institutional users. It did not achieve widespread service adoption. Decades later, American civilian fi****ms echoed its distinctive appearance.

The 12-Gauge Sh***un Built Around an AR-10-Pattern Lower.

Genesis Arms developed the GEN-12 as a 12-gauge system built around the DPMS Gen 1 .308/AR-10-pattern lower-receiver architecture. Unlike many AR-styled sh****ns, its upper and operating parts are purpose-designed for 12 gauge. The design uses a short-recoil operating principle and proprietary detachable magazines. It appeared publicly by the late 2010s and has since expanded into multiple configurations. Its legacy is the unusual marriage of familiar .308-pattern lower architecture with a purpose-built semi-automatic sh***un system.
