This year, we were honored to have been selected to collaborate with the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum (SAAACAM) in creating a thematic, exhibit aligned, 15-lesson foundational curriculum.
This work was created with deep care for memory, place, and belonging. Designed through Sankofa, Ubuntu, experiential learning, and culturally sustaining pedagogy, the curriculum invites students to engage history as living and relational, where self and community are inseparable, and offers tools to interpret cultural identity and cultural history. As the curriculum designer, I approached this work as an act of care, honoring Black history in San Antonio and the U.S. Southwest while supporting students in seeing themselves as historians, knowledge keepers, and cultural creators.
Offered as a living foundation and opening chapter, these lessons are intended to grow and deepen alongside the communities they serve.
Tlazocamati to SAAACAM for the trust, collaboration, and shared commitment to liberatory learning.

My team and I just wrapped up our second FutureShock LA site! The program was a beautiful opportunity to reflect on the harm of traditional schooling practices while resurrecting rehumanizing dynamics where youth lead their own learning. It was a remarkable opportunity that offered a critical insight into challenging majoritarian systems in education. We didn't make decisions for youth, we made decisions WITH youth!

“Sometimes we drug ourselves with dreams of new ideas. The head will save us. The brain alone will set us free. But there are no new ideas still waiting in the wings to save us as women, as human. There are only old and forgotten ones, new combinations, extrapolations and recognitions from within ourselves, along with the renewed courage to try them out. And we must constantly encourage ourselves and each other to attempt the heretical actions our dreams imply and some of our old ideas disparage.” AUDRE LORDE ( Poetry is not a Luxury)

"There are young people in kindergarten today who will live to see the 22nd century. As technology is able to conduct more rote tasks in our lives, it will become an ever-more important piece of educational practice. It will equally require us to unearth ancestral styles of education that connect us to that which makes us most human – to that which technology cannot replicate."
