This week’s featured artist is Carlos Arias, a recent BFA Fashion Design alum whose work blends his Latino heritage with modern aesthetics. Through clean silhouettes and intentional material choices, Carlos creates thoughtful, concept-driven pieces that explore identity, authority, and innovation.

This week’s featured artist is Daisy Verduzco, who graduated in May with an MFA in Graphic Design. A Mexican American graphic designer from Los Angeles, Daisy’s work combines analog and digital methods, with projects rooted in her cultural identity and a deep interest in decolonizing graphic design practice.

MFA Fine Arts alumnus Ren Ramirez reflects on the growth, experimentation, and care that shaped his time in the Otis College MFA program.

“The MFA program is a transformative program where growth is expected through diligence and critical thinking. The faculty has so much knowledge and support to offer during class time, studio visits, and just conversations.

Learning new things and not shying away from labs or classes has also advanced my artist practice. We are encouraged to experiment and make use of everything the program has to offer. My studio became my home and the printmaking lab became my home away from home.

This program has taught me that being an artist goes beyond making artwork and being known for it. We are required to develop an understanding of the world around us and care.”

Markus Maciel (’01 BFA Toy Design) has spent more than two decades bringing toys to life, from Hot Wheels to his own bespoke toy design work. Now, he brings that experience into the classroom through Otis College’s BFA Toy Design and Summer of Art programs, helping students develop imaginative concepts rooted in play, storytelling, and professional practice.

Otis College alumna Bao Tranchi, ’99 BFA Fashion Design, is bringing her vision to the runway as an official cast member of Season 22 of Project Runway.

Known for her bold, body-conscious designs, expert draping, and commitment to creating timeless pieces with a distinct point of view, Bao has built a celebrated fashion brand worn by artists, performers, and style icons around the world.
