Our dear friend, Jim, left the earth late this morning.

He leaves behind many family members and countless friends who loved and treasured his wit and wisdom. He also leaves a legacy of love and generosity, healing and hope, clarity and surrender—all the markers of a mature spiritual traveler. Jim was Sage, Teacher, Scholar, Warrior, Guide, Trickster, Storyteller, Shapeshifter, Magical Child. He broke new ground at Caroline Myss’s CMED classes by offering his rich perspectives and experiences from working with archetypes with actors like John Travolta, Willem Defoe, John Malkovich and Geena Davis. (In those days he explained them as “essences”, the fundamental uniqueness or charisma that each actor brought to each role.)

Evenings at CMED were Movie Night where Jim schooled us in what he might have called the spiritually subversive role of films in our lives. He gave us the chance to see movies as deep—often holy—stories filled with lessons and universal wisdom about our own spiritual challenges. He had a gift for seeing the mystical subtext in films, and a feel for the pulse of the changes thundering through our culture and film gave him the roadmap for understanding it himself and being able to explain it to others. A man of deep faith and devotion to God, he spread his gift of joyful perspective far and wide. If you knew him, your life was richer for it.

Farewell for now, dear friend, and many thanks for the richness your lifetime left behind for us.

Aloha - No big updates. Phone calls are getting shorter. Messages of love received and appreciated.

Aloha 🦋- Jim has been moved into a hospice facility in Denver. He is in process spiritually so - in and out of chronos / kairos / cosmic awareness. I spoke with him briefly, we laughed about angels and movie stars, but he didn't have the energy for conversation.

He feels all the love coming his way so keep sending it through the æther! His phone is with him but not able to answer it much. 💓

Thanks to everyone who has reached out. Jim is very weak and not able to hold the phone without help. It's looking like he will be called to the next adventure soon.

If you have reached out or sent anything, I trust that his Spirit has received it already.

One of the most life-changing lessons that I learned from Jim has been the paradoxical space that God lives in both Grief & Gratitude.

Hello All - This is Julienne, a good friend of Jim's as well as his technology Maven.

I know many of you have reached out because you haven’t heard from Jim in a while. I spoke with his sister as well as one of his closest friends today.

Jim’s prognosis is such that he’s decided to forgo any more curative treatments. In his own inimitable style as well as his deep faith, he is at peace with this decision. To wit, "I've lived an amazing life, what else could I ask for?"

He is at home with helpers and family there to see to anything he needs. Barring being moved into a hospice facility, he will be at home. He has received last rites but this does not necessarily mean he’s ready to shuffle off this mortal coil just yet. The timing is in God’s hands and Jim’s spirit so we don’t know if it's hours, days, weeks or what.

He’s not answering the phone but if you want to send him an email, a video message or text that should work best. And of course prayers.

People have asked about sending flowers or something. Tricky because we don’t know if he will get moved. If you do - do it asap. I recommend making it fun and silly and/or ridiculous and fanciful! This is JIM we are talking about! A Carmen Miranda fruit basket or giant inflatable flamingo or sparkly socks perhaps? If you’d like the address to send things send me a private message.

In today’s meditation Richard Rohr explains the difference between change and transformation. He writes, “Change of itself just happens; spiritual transformation is an active process of letting go, living in the confusing dark space for a while, and allowing yourself to be spit up on a new and unexpected shore. Change can either help people to find a new meaning, or it can cause people to close down and turn bitter.
