Ivana Chubbuck is the founder and director of the Ivana Chubbuck Studio and creator of the cutting edge and widely adopted Chubbuck Technique.
A technique that has been used in Oscar winning and nominated performances. In her own words, “The difference between the Chubbuck Technique and those developed in the past is that I teach actors how to use their emotions not as an end result, but as a way to empower a goal. My technique teaches actors how to win.”
Essentially, The Chubbuck Technique takes the very same pain, insecurities, iss
ues and fears that usually cause self-destructive behaviors and instead uses the very same issues as a powerful fuel to overcome, resolve, learn, evolve and create catharsis for the characters in the script. Thereby The Chubbuck Technique philosophy creates a dynamic journey for the actor, writer, director and ultimately the audience. The underbelly of the Chubbuck Technique is to find a way to “win” in spite of and because of the pain. Ivana’s students are well represented at the Academy Awards, Emmys, Golden Globes, Tonys, and many other international movie, television, and theater awards. Some of her notable actors that she has worked with include: Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, Brad Pitt, Sylvester Stallone, Gal Gadot, Jake Gyllenhaal, Shia LaBeouf, Judith Light, Jim Carrey, Chris Pine, David Boreanaz, Katja Herbers, Simu Liu, James Franco, David Ayer, Beyonce Knowles, Meg Ryan, Jerod Leto, Elisabeth Shue and many others. Ivana Chubbuck is the author of the best-selling book The Power of the Actor, published by a division of Penguin Books (Gotham). The book has been translated into 20 languages. Globally there are officially accredited Chubbuck Technique teachers and schools in countries including: Russia, Japan, England, Philippines, Brazil, Columbia, Uruguay, Argentina, Canada, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, Israel, Romania, Australia, Germany, Austria, Italy, China, Indonesia, Romania, Ukraine, France, Belgium, Spain, Poland, and more. Ivana often holds seminars and workshops internationally, and has been a guest teacher at the prestigious Beijing Film Academy, China’s Dome Academy and The Julliard School. When playing an “evil” character you should always find the motivating factor that comes from righteous reasons. In the mind of an evil doer, perpetrating this evil act is with a purpose that gives them some form of emotional resolution. This makes the bad coupled with the good a 3 dimensional more authentic portrayal of the human being that resides within. In the same way, the “good” character has some form of a dark side that can drive their need to be good. Yin and yang: can’t feel the dark without the light, and you can’t feel the light without the dark.

Congratulations Jane Levy for your comedy show Sunset PI (opposite Jake Johnson) being one of the 4 shows NBC picked up this year!!!! Loved working with you on this wonderful project. A joy to have great co-stars and great writing to play with. You are a true risk taker in the choices you make. (and a little self bragging, as I’m due that from time to time) out of 4 shows NBC picked up, I worked with the stars on two of them. The other being David Boreanaz on the reboot of Rockford Files.). Yay team!👏❤️
Mexico talent you did not disappoint. The work was brave and inspired. It was such a joy to be a part of life changing moments for all of us.

Dreams stay dreams if you don’t take action. You can make a dream a reality if you do the work. Greatness isn’t for people who are lazy or play it safe. Be brave and make risky choices. Time is meant to be filled with creative endeavor. Script analysis should be riddled with ways to empower the character’s journey for both you and your audience. And always remember, it’s not over til its over. There’s always more to explore. Never Give Up.

The point of our being a part of telling a story through acting (writing, or directing) is to give people hope that they can overcome their own traumas, pain, insecurities and fears as the character’s To sit in your pain is a victims choice, Frankly a journey that is depressing to play and to watch. We need to make empowering choices with our pain - create a 3 ring circus with your “stuff”. So many ways to effect change, only one way to give up. Tell a story that needs to be told. Be an emotional hero for others AND yourself.
