Our next Class of 2026 USC Gould School of Law student spotlight features Lara Cecília Baía Morelli Rossiter, who will graduate with her Master of Laws in Privacy Law and Cybersecurity (LLM in PLCS). Congratulations to Lara!
Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: After graduating from USC Gould’s LLM in Privacy Law and Cybersecurity program, I plan to continue expanding my expertise in cybersecurity and privacy law throughout my career in the United States. I aim to work in a role where I can support companies in navigating complex regulatory frameworks and contribute to strengthening data governance practices in a global context in privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity. I am also planning to take the February California Bar in 2027.
Q: How is your master's degree going to help with your future plans?
A: My LLM in Privacy Law and Cybersecurity has provided me with a strong foundation in U.S. legal system, its principles, particularly in privacy and cybersecurity, which are essential for my career goals in the long term. The program has enhanced my ability to analyze legal risks, understand regulatory requirements, and apply legal concepts in practical privacy scenarios. This knowledge will enable me to support companies by leveraging my background as a licensed attorney in Brazil combined with my LLM from USC and my international perspective.
Q: Is there a class, professor, or experience you had at USC Gould that stands out as the most memorable or influential during your time here?
A: Last semester, I was privileged enough to have a mandatory course from my LLM in PLCS, LAW 694: Cyberlaw: Legal Issues Impacting Providers and Users of Internet Services with Professor Allen Chiu. It was an enlightening and dynamic class, where the professor encouraged us to share our opinions and engage in discussions about each case, always considering both sides of the argument. This semester, I am taking LAW 772: Intellectual Property with Professor Mike Newhouse, and it has been amazing to learn from such an outstanding professional. He has a lot of experience in IP law and brings a lot of real-life scenarios and cases to class that helps us understand the subject in a practical way.
One of the most memorable and influential experiences I've had at USC Gould would definitely be the convocation ceremony. It was truly a special moment.
