USC Foundation for Cross-Connection Control and Hydraulic Research

Protecting the drinking water through standards and training in cross-connection control and backflow prevention since 1944.

For 73 years the USC Foundation has been a leader in backflow prevention and cross-connection control. Beginning with its first set of general testing procedures published in 1948 the USC Foundation has made available a membership program, training courses, training tools and has developed an approval process for backflow prevention assemblies. On July 1, 2024, the California State Water Resources Control Board adopted the Cross-Connection Control Policy Handbook. This handbook establishes regulations to protect public water systems (PWS) from backflow contamination. Understanding these regulations and the importance of backflow prevention and cross-connection control is crucial for maintaining safe drinking water.
