As the school year begins, many of us are assessing students academic skills, but also their executive function abilities. This checklist is a simple way for students to self reflect on their own executive function strengths and stretches and can be used for even early elementary learners. Sign up for our free resources via the link in bio to check out the teacher version of this as well! 🧠💡

SET isn’t just fun, it’s a workout for your mind. 💪🧠Learners practice visual discrimination, flexible thinking, and pattern recognition while racing to find sets of three. Every round strengthens focus, sharpens problem-solving skills, and increases perseverance (it’s not easy!!) Do your students like this game??

I 💙direction following activities so I thought why not mix them with decoding practice?! These puzzles helps learners practice carefully reading the directions and analyzing words in order to find the mystery word. This forces our speed readers to slow down and attend to details, creating the perfect combo of literacy and executive function learning. To try out several levels of word puzzles (CVC, CVCE and more!) for free, follow the link in bio to sign up for my email list or dm me your email address. 😀

This game is making my students giggle all week! 🐮🐍🐢🐅 Animal upon Animal is all about successfully stacking your animals in a pyramid, but it’s much harder than it looks! This game utilizes the skills of visual spatial perception and awareness, fine motor skills, self control, and more!!

One of my favorite initial assessments/ get to know you activities is two truths and a lie! This shows me a student’s:
✏️ability to generate complete sentences
✏️handwriting, spelling and proofreading skills
✏️initiation of a writing prompt
✏️some surprising fun facts!

Game on repeat all week!! Word Search has players race to find pictures that fit different categories or letter sounds. 🔎 Takes 30 seconds to set up and 5 minutes to play making it the perfect warm up or brain break. Use it to practice phonological awareness, rapid naming, vocabulary, flexibility, attention to detail and much more!

Anyone else love all the New York Times puzzles? Strands is a new favorite and I just found out you can make your own on https://customstrandsnyt.com/create. This is such a fun challenge for advanced learners! It’s a great way to review spelling patterns (this picture is for floss, -ck, -tch) and could also be used for vocabulary words or even with numbers for math facts. While I absolutely love these tricky puzzles, they aren’t for all learners and can be visually overwhelming for some so use wisely! 🪄
