🚨 Verb alumni, this one’s for you.

On October 23, we unveil the Coach Lalo mural.

For 23 years, Ladislao “Lalo” Mendoza built Verbum Dei Athletics into a powerhouse—five CIF championships, back-to-back state titles, and a 26-game unbeaten streak.

But the wins weren’t the whole story.

His players remember a coach who looked after them. As his obituary said: “If an athlete or a student needed something to eat, he would feed them.”

That’s the legacy we want to carry forward.

A huge THANK YOU to alumnus and board member Hardy Nickerson for donating the mural.

Now we’re asking 75 Verb alum to follow Hardy’s lead, give back, and continue the legacy.

The mural is paid for. Your gift goes directly to athletics—equipment, travel, coaching, and meals for our students.

75 alum. Any amount. Every class.

Your name will be added to the contributor page, and we’ll send you a photo of the mural with your name on it to share.

This past weekend, our freshmen came together for an overnight retreat filled with team games, shared meals, and meaningful connections!

Thanks to our JEDIS, Campus Ministry, and 9th-grade staff for creating an experience where our newest Eagles could bond with their groups and leaders, build friendships, and strengthen the brotherhood that makes Verbum Dei special.

The retreat also included Saturday morning service, giving our freshmen the opportunity to give back and serve their community. 💙🙏

Welcome to the Verb brotherhood, Eagles!

At Verbum Dei Jesuit High School, education goes beyond the classroom. ✝️

We form young men to grow in faith, lead with integrity, serve others, and become the men God calls them to be.

Through Catholic Jesuit education, our students experience the power of brotherhood, academic growth, spiritual formation, and real-world career preparation through our Corporate Work Study Program.
