Today I went back to teaching on campus at Musicians Institute in Hollywood after 6 years of remote-only classes.

After finishing a full curriculum revamp, I’m now teaching Logic Pro 1 and Logic Pro 2 in person again, while still teaching my Pro Tools classes remotely on Zoom.

Great day, great energy, and honestly even the commute from Orange County felt good: train, subway, walking around Hollywood like the old commuter days — without losing my mind in LA traffic.

Public transportation in LA is still not perfect, but it has definitely improved. Pretty impressive how easy it was to move around today.

It was also great to reconnect with colleagues, see Freida again, and meet a brand-new group of students ready to start the quarter.

Good to be back in the classroom.

Yesterday marked the close of the 10th edition of the UCLA Extension Film Festival, which began last Sunday and received over 1,200 film submissions this year.

Earlier in the week, I attended the VIP reception on a beautiful rooftop in Downtown Los Angeles, and yesterday I joined the screenings, awards ceremony, and closing celebration at the historic Los Angeles Theatre.

It was a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the work, creativity, and dedication of so many filmmakers — including some of my current and former students, whose work in music, film, and storytelling makes me genuinely proud.

It was also wonderful to reconnect with former students and meet new ones, as well as spend time with the leadership, program directors, staff, and colleagues who help make events like this possible.

The setting made the event even more special. The Los Angeles Theatre is one of LA’s great historic Art Deco landmarks, rarely open to the public and deeply connected to the city’s cinematic history. Nearly a century ago, Charlie Chaplin presented one of his very first films there.

A memorable week, a beautiful venue, and a proud moment as an educator.

Honored that Puff Pastry 192 Layers Tiramisù from A World of Tiramisù was recognized as a Winner at the 17th Annual TASTE Photography Awards, with Turkish Delight Tiramisù selected as a Finalist.

A World of Tiramisù is the posthumous third book by my wife, Alessandra “Ale” Gambini A Queen In The Kitchen a deeply personal project I am honored to oversee and produce.

Back at NAMM 🤍

Reconnecting with friends I’ve known since my very first NAMM in 2008—back when I was still living in Italy, just months before moving to the U.S. for good.

New connections, great conversations, productive meetings, and a lot of ideas in motion.

Beautiful weather, strong energy, and the luxury of being just 15 minutes from home. Grateful.

Quick share for musicians & audio folks here! Pro Tools has changed a lot in the last few years, and I see many people still trying to learn it through random tutorials or outdated workflows, which often makes things more confusing than they need to be.

I’m teaching Introduction to Pro Tools this Winter at UCLA Extension. It’s a course I’ve been running successfully there for nearly 20 years, built on my 30+ years of professional experience in music production, audio engineering, and education.

This class is designed to be:
• Beginner-friendly (no Pro Tools experience required)
• Helpful if you learned Pro Tools years ago and feel behind
• Practical and workflow-focused (music, podcasts, dialogue, media)

We cover recording, editing, basic mixing, modern Pro Tools navigation, Elastic Audio, session organization, and a clear overview of new Pro Tools 2025 features (AI-assisted transcription, improved dialogue/ADR workflows, automation tools, and overall workflow improvements), always explained in a real-world context.

This week marks 17 years at Musicians Institute
Hard to believe how much life, music, and humanity can fit into nearly two decades of teaching.

Over the years I’ve had the privilege to teach thousands of students, run hundreds of classes, guide dozens of senior projects, write and develop course curricula, launch the MIO program from day one, and certify hundreds of students in Logic Pro, while teaching every level of Pro Tools and Logic Pro, both on campus and, in recent years, mostly online with students from all over the world.

I’ve led masterclasses, clinics, special events, and even had the chance to present at places like the Grammy Museum. I’ve also been honored to receive Faculty of the Year multiple times, something that means a lot because it comes from both students and fellow instructors.

I’m grateful to every student I’ve met along the way, to every colleague who walked this journey with me, and to everyone who trusted me with their learning.

A special thanks to Jonathan Newkirk and Maurice Verloop for their support throughout these years.

Here’s to 17 years, and whatever comes next.
