This past quarter, our BGA members have been committed to their outreach efforts. Members recently have done a high school visit to talk to students about their journeys so far as bioengineers in the UCLA Bioengineering department and have also participated in the LA Maker Faire to offer hands-on activities like a portable microscope demonstration! On Wednesday, March 11th, 2026, the UCLA Bioengineering department hosted our annual Capstone Design Symposium for our graduating senior students. Dr. Sean Yamada-Hunter, one of our newest assistant professors, helped host this year’s capstone symposium alongside various graduate teaching assistants who also guided the undergraduate students with their capstone projects for the past two quarters. BioE faculty members who also assisted the students were in attendance and affiliated faculty helped judge the projects as well.

Mohamad Abedi, an incoming assistant professor of bioengineering at the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering, has been awarded a 2026 Michelson Prizes: Next Generation Grant to support his research developing next-generation immunotherapies for cancer.
