Fellow Toastmasters,
I’ve met with my officers with an idea on how to spice things up! We will hold a mock speech contest. We’ll change up the rules to make it more lenient. You don’t have to be a paid member to participate.
Why participate?
1. Get better at speaking.
2. You’ll get more feedback than if you were to do a regular speech in the club, since potentially more judges
3. And there will be prizes. The Top 3 speech contestants will receive $20 off their membership renewal. I’ve gotten the okay from our Treasurer and the majority of our officers 👍
4. You can use your speech in the real speech contest.
If you want to know more. Go here: https://www.meetup.com/Downtown_LA_Toastmasters/events/qpshsrybcnbdb/
These are the general formats of each speech contest. If you are interested, please email me which type of contest format you would like to participate in.
1. International
Contestants present a five- to seven- minute speech on any subject they choose. All districts must conduct this contest
2. Humorous
Contestants present a humorous speech that must be thematic in nature (opening, body, and close), not a monologue (series of one-liners).
3. Evaluation
Contestants observe a five-to seven-minute test speech and then present a two-to three-minute evaluation of the test speech.
4. Tall Tales
Contestants present a speech on a topic that is highly-exaggerated and improbable in theme or plot.
5. Table Topics
An impromptu speech, all contestants are assigned the same topic, told to them when they are introduced by the contest chair.
6. Video Speech
A contest for undistricted clubs and provisional districts that follows the International Speech Contest rules. This contest does not advance beyond the club.
So far, we got 3 contestants & 3 judges. If you'd like to attend via MS Teams Video Chat, please RSVP 'yes' on our Meetup page link below and we'll send you the link. If you'd like to participate as judge or contestant, please message all our Admins!
Good Luck Everyone!
