Established in 1919, the USC School of Architecture offers undergraduate and graduate architectural studies in the context of a world-class research university. The first accredited school of architecture in Southern California, USC counts among its alumni, two Pritzker-Prize-winners, Frank Gehry ’84 and Thom Mayne ’69. Undergraduate students can choose between the 5-year, professional Bachelor of

Architecture, the 4-year Bachelor of Science, and the Bachelor of Science in GeoDesign. At the graduate level, the School offers Master's programs in a diverse range of disciplines (architecture, landscape architecture, building science, and heritage conservation), as well as a unique selection of dual degrees. Students at all levels can take advantage of global studies opportunities in Europe, Asia, and North & South America. Additionally, one of the particular advantages of being a USC Architecture student is the School’s relationship with the USC Architectural Guild, an organization that lends professional guidance and financial support to students, faculty, and alumni, as well as providing a vital link to the profession. All of this (and more) takes place in Los Angeles, a highly original, diverse city that challenges preconceptions and serves as an incubator for new ideas and practices.

Announcing an exciting opportunity to join the USC School of Architecture as a full-time tenure-track faculty.

USC School of Architecture invites applications and nominations for a full-time tenure-track or tenured position (open rank) in Heritage Conservation. We are looking for a thought leader whose practice and scholarship are poised to shape the future of Heritage Conservation at a time of both challenge and opportunity. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, depending on experience and qualifications.

The school seeks architectural designers with proven records of research and teaching in design studios and seminars at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate’s practice should represent a robust research agenda, one that engages urgent social, cultural, technological, and/or environmental challenges facing the built environment today. Ideal candidates might integrate rigorous design experimentation with scholarly inquiry, advance architectural discourse through the use of innovative methodologies, and/or embrace cross-disciplinary collaboration. Of particular interest are candidates exploring computational design, new forms of creative practice, and/or large-scale urban design; as well as candidates who focus on climate-related design, materiality, and/or housing.

The positions will remain open until filled. Both appointments are expected to begin in August 2027.

Beyond physical structure, architecture carries an elusive quality: the power to evoke emotion, memory, and a sense of belonging. In this lecture, Fernanda Oppermann and Jose Herrasti present the work and philosophy of MUTUO, the Los Angeles–based practice they co-founded. Rooted in their experience as immigrants, MUTUO approaches architecture as an ongoing pursuit of "home"—not as a static material entity, but as an evolving condition that is neither here nor there, but somewhere in-between.

Through a selection of built and ongoing projects across the United States and Latin America, Fernanda and Jose will illustrate how their studio transcends the limitations of localized or specialized practice. By existing in this intermediate space, their work explores disparate cultural aspects, ways of living, and ways of building.

"Paul R. Williams: An Architect Considered,” on view NOW at the USC Fisher Museum of Art from through July 2027, with companion exhibitions at LACMA, and Getty Research Institute.

Here is a peek at the first curator walk through led by USC Professor and Associate Dean Amy Murphy.

The exhibition debuts archival drawings, photographs, and plans and pairs them with newly commissioned works by leading contemporary artists, architects, and filmmakers: Edgar Arceneaux; Current Interests (Matthew Au and Mira Henry); enFOLD Collective (Dana McKinney White and Megan Echols); Darell W. Fields; David Hartt; Cory Henry; and Amanda Williams, as well as a selection of existing works by photographers Julius Shulman and Janna Ireland.
