Lion Pride Friday alert! ๐จ Meet Cecil White โ26. Cecil extends his deepest gratitude to the African American Alumni Association (AAAA) at LMU. What ultimately brought him clarity during a season of doubt and uncertainty was a single conversation that helped him make sense of months of questions about his future.
While attending an African American Alumni Association Students and Alumni Mixer, Cecil was introduced to AAAA ambassador Randi Davis โ10 from his fraternity brother, Alex Dorsey โ10, M.A. โ13.
Whenever Cecil had previously shared his career aspirations with others, he was often met with skepticism or discouraging responses about his interest in a career in social work. Randi took the time to understand Cecilโs aspirations, explain the path she had taken, offer valuable advice, and truly listen to the reasons behind his desire to enter the field of social work. Their conversation flowed naturally and Randi demonstrated a sincere commitment to helping him navigate the confusion he was experiencing.
โThe Alumni Mixer at Loyola Marymount University truly changed everything for me that night,โ Cecil writes. โIt made me do my own research, cut the outside noise out, and stand 10 toes behind what it was I wanted to do.โ
The insight and encouragement Cecil received from his alumna mentor contributed greatly to his success during the graduate admissions process, and he was accepted into every Master of Social Work program to which he applied.
