The Atwater Village Ukulele Club meets tonight, Tuesday 6/2, 8-9pm.
We meet tonight in Atwater Village. After some warm up tunes we'll review the melodic content and the triplet strumming technique for the latest addition to the book, Lennon & McCartney's "All My Loving" which is a pretty solid workout for strumming some triplets if ever there was one. We'll also run through any requests from the book that folks might want to run, and I wrote out an actual bass part for "Time" so we'll be sure to give that a run or two as well.
New folks always welcome! If you're looking to get into something other than the usual strum and sing format, this is the group for you. All of the music is carefully arranged to accomodate players of various skill levels, and the effort is made to keep things stylistically diverse and outside of the traditional idioms of the instrument. If you can manage a few chords and keep the beat that's pretty much the requisite skill set. For those not there yet I do teach lessons. Text (213)359-2331 for location, $10 cash only. We're doing our part to keep the Hamilton in circulation.
Also, if you know of anyone looking to get started playing I have a few student models for sale. They're good instruments that are easy to play and stay in tune. (A lot of beginner ukuleles are just garbage, these are good ones). Interested parties should inquire at the above number.

The Atwater Village Ukulele Club meets tonight, Tuesday 5/26, 8-9pm.
We meet tonight in Atwater Village. Last week a number of our regulars were unable to attend, so instead of the usual routine we took the opportunity to go over things that were of specific interest to those present. Which I suppose isn't much diffrent than what usually takes place as we keep things a little loose. Anyway, we'll hit the latest additions to our book and give a few of the others a pass.
New folks always welcome! If you've got some basics together and want to dig into something both challenging and fun, this may be a good fit for you. You'll need your instrument and a light duty music stand. A loaner stand is available for any new folks lacking this handy accessory. Text (213)359-2331 for location, $10 cash only.
Last of all, if anyone knows anyone intereted in getting started I have a few ukuleles for sale that are good quality student models that stay in tune and play easily. Interested parties should inquire at the above number.

The Atwater Village Ukulele Club meets tonight, Tuesday 5/19, 8-9pm.
We meet tonight in Atwater Village. After a little warmup we'll see how everyone is coming along with the triplet strumming technique we went over last week. We'll be trying it out on the Beatles tune "All My Loving". We'll commit the rest of the time to anything that anyone wants to try a newly learned part on which I'm pretty sure means that "Black and Blue", "Sous Le Ciel De Paris", and "Pure Imagination" will get played among anything else that gets called from the book.
New folks always welcome! If you're looking for a way to improve your ukulele skills in an ensemble setting this is probably the thing for you. Text (213)359-2331 for location, $10 cash only.
Also, if anyone is aware of anyone else or themselves looking to get started playing ukulele, I have three good student models for sale. They play easily and stay in tune as I've presonally given them an inspection. The instruments are old stock from the now closed Larry Larson Music Store. Inquire at the above number.

The Atwater Village Ukulele Club meets tonight, Tuesday 5/12, 8-9pm.
We meet tonight in Atwater Village. Last week we learned a strumming technique that is for playing triplets (or any multiple of three) that can accomodate faster tempos with a little practice. There are a few ways you can do this. This week we will put it to work in context with the the Beatles tune "All My Loving". While we won't have thr triplets in the entirety of the tune we want to at least be able to hang in there for two A sections in succession. Before we dig into it we'll review the technique and it's possible variations. Depending on the majority consensus we'll hit plenty of other tunes as well, as I'd like anyone who has been working on a different part to anything has an opportunity to give it a run with the group.
New folks always welcome! If you can peel off a few chords without losing the beat you've met the basic performance requisite for participation. A lot of our regulars began with very little if any experience, but they kept showing up and practicing and they pretty much kick butt at it now. So as a means of becoming a better player and a more informed musician, this seems to be working quite well. Text (213)359-2331 for location, $10 cash only.
Also, if anyone is interested in getting started playing the ukulele or knows someone who is, I have a few good student model ukuleles for sale that are player friendly and stay in tune. It's overstock from the now closed Larry Larson Music Store. Inquire at the above number.

The Atwater Village Ukulele Club meets tonight, Tuesday 5/5, 8-9pm.
We meet tonight in Atwater Village. We'll do some more of the usual and will dip into some of the longer arrangements. In preparation for some possible new material, we'll take a minute and check out a triplet strumming technique that is quite useful for loads of things. We won't spend too much time on it, just enough that those who care to work on it have enough information to practice it correctly. There's actually two ways to do it and in the spirit of being thorough I'll be sure that the variable element is easily understood. If a few of us can get the hang of it it will be a good asset for the group.
New folks always welcome! If you can manage a few chords and keep the beat you've met the basic criteria to be able to hang. For those not quite there yet, well, I do teach lessons. Fear not, though, we aim to be as inclusive as we possibly can. Text (213)359-2331 for location, $10 cash only.

The Atwater Village Ukulele Club meets tonight, Tuesday 4/28, 8-9pm.
We meet tonight in Atwater Village. Last week not everyone had the opportunity to call a tune so we'll be sure that our regulars who didn't have the opportunity last week can make a selection tonight.
If there's any need for it, we'll take a minute and go over any technical aspects of playing that anyone wants to address. We can go over anything like working with tempos, techniques for melody playing, or whatever might be challenging for anyone. While it might not be true in every case scenario, a common thread with most technical hurdles people encounter is that they tend to involve not doing anything more, but doing less. Efficiency is really the prevailing concept, not force.
New folks always welcome! Everyone who has made a habit of it has become a better player, so it seems that musical betterment through ensemble playing is still working quite well. While a lot of first timers get a little freaked out by the sheer volume of music and how well our regulars know how to play it, those who keep showing up get it all together in time. Besides, uke club isn't about a refined or flawless ex*****on of performance, it's about creating the opportunity to play as an ensemble. Sometimes it really comes together. Sometimes mistakes are made. Still, music gets played and it's a pretty fun thing to do. Text (213)359-2331 for location, $10 cash only.
If you know anyone looking to acquire a ukulele I still have some overstock from the now closed Larry Larson Music Store. Inquire at the above number.

The Atwater Village ukulele club meets tonight, Tuesday 4/21, 8-9pm.
We meet tonight in Atwater Village. Per the usual routine, we'll get through as much music as we can. We'll play through anything that anyone has been working on and we will take a moment to distribute any additional parts.
New folks always welcome! If you've been looking to get better at playing the ukulele this is an excellent way to go about it. The main idea behind the ukulele club is the betterment and expanded abilities and musicianship of the participants. And it does, in fact, work. You can do and learn a lot in the context of ensemble playing. Text (213)359-2331 for location, $10 cash only.

The Atwater Village Ukulele Club meets tonight, Tuesday 4/14, 8-9pm.
We meet tonight in Atwater Village. After a couple of warm up tunes we'll play some more, and anyone who has worked out a different part to any of the songs will have an opportunity to play it with the ensemble. We'll also tally up as much of the rest of everyones books so we can get any missing parts to anyone who doesn't have a complete set. In the past we distributed parts throughout the group and folks would have their part but not the others. Thing is, you can't learn a different one if you don't have a copy so it's just a good idea for everyone to have everything. At this point the paper and ink method is still best as some of the longer parts are three or four pages and that's a bit of a chore with a tablet or iPad reader.
New folks always welcome! If you want to start playing better, this is a great way to improve your skills and all around understanding of the musical language and playing. There's a lot you can get out of the ensemble playing experience. It's not a strum and sing group. We play arranged parts, it's different than the usual fare. If you can manage a few chords you have the requisite skill level to participate. Text (213)359-2331 for location, $10 cash only.
Also, I have a few ukuleles for sale. Good student models that stay in tune and play easily. Inquire at the above number.

The Atwater Village Ukulele Club meets tonight, Tuesday 4/7, 8-9pm.
We meet tonight in Atwater Village. After a warm up tune or two, we'll do a quick review of repeat signs, 1st and 2nd endings, D.S. and D.C. al Coda and al Fine. While all of our regulars know what's up in regard to this, some of our newer folks are just getting their feet wet with navigating their way through a tune that includes one or more of these things.
Good news is that it's all pretty easy, so not to worry. Just takes a bit of getting used to.
Our friend Chris Camacho is not going to be able to join us tonight, so I'll see if I can find someone else to cover some low notes or we'll just go sans bass instrument. Either way it'll still be fun.
New folks always welcome! If you can move from one chord to another without losing the beat you've met the requisite skill set. (For those not there yet but would like to be I'm also a private instructor, just look up my name on yelp.) Text (213)359-2331 for location, $10 cash only.
Also, I still have a few ukuleles for sale, they're good student models that play easily and stay in tune. If you know anyone interested in acquiring a ukulele just pass along the above number.

We meet tonight in Atwater Village. Nothing new on the agenda this week, we'll just pound our way through as many tunes as we can. Naturally, we will go over any questions anyone might have about form, repeats, or any technical questions or concerns anyone might have. Otherwise we'll just play as much as we can, and we will of course hit all of the newer additions to the book as we're still getting used to some of those parts. Of course, we'll play anything that anyone has been working on a different part for.
In the spirit of having folks be as well versed as possible in the music, if anyone doesn't have all of the parts for any of the tunes, we'll compile a list of what is missing from anyone's book and I'll have them ready for the next meet.
New folks always welcome! Even if you're not that experienced, if you keep showing up you're going to start being able to play better. Uke club is a good way to go for those who don't want to go the private lessons route. Some like both. I suppose the are some that don't like either but I probably haven't met them if that's their disposition. Text (213)359-2331 for location, $10 cash only.
Also, I have a few ukuleles for sale. Decent student models at a reasonable price. If you know someone interested in getting started I can put a good instrument in their hands. Inquire at the above number.
