Using a tuning fork to provide vibration input to the client's right parietal lobe- the region that processes tactile information and plays a big role in "Where am I in space?". Think proprioception, body awareness, interoception and tactile/weird sensations.

With their eyes closed, the client attempts to identify which finger is being touched. Be sure to have the client open their eyes to confirm accuracy for themselves to improve their error-correction and provide feedback to the basal ganglia.

For our clients with lack of body awareness/ proprioception & interception, neuroscience indicates that the parietal lobe processes most of this information. Many of our clients show weaknesses in this area, specifically the right parietal lobe.

As therapists, we can stimulate the parietal lobe with tactile activities, VIBRATION with a tuning fork, graphesthesia, and stereognosis with the left hand to stimulate the right parietal lobe. We even facilitate horizontal pursuits for this region.

With the right input/ stimulation, we can reduce or even eliminate symptoms.

CNSI Therapies OT Certifications AT WORK

One of our 5 year old littles that started just 8 weeks ago is having mostly good days!!

At our evaluation, mom reported most days being hard with multiple meltdowns per day. The word "no" triggered a strong reaction; he screamed and ran away.

This week, mom reported that only 2 out of the last 14 days have been hard.

Woohoo!

Each of these cranial nerves can be tracked back to instability in a specific area of the brainstem (midbrain/mesencephalon or pons). The REALLY cool thing, is that we stimulate that area of the brain to increase ocularmotor skills, VESTIBULAR, POSTURE, & BALANCE. 💪

The power of CNSI!

We think it's time to start celebrating our clients! 🎉

This month we discharged a 16 yr old client who met his goals after 12 weeks of therapy.

Our client presented with decreased focus, missing assignments, and poor grades. The school did not allow him to participate in cross country races due to academics. Our client reported frequent physical symptoms of shortness of breath, "feeling weird" like going to pass out and/or "frozen".

This client was consistent with his appointments and home exercises. After 12 weeks, he reported he had not had those "weird" physical symptoms in the past month and feels motivated for the first time. He's getting good grades and has all of his homework assignments turned in. Testing showed increases in deductive reasoning and visuospatial working memory.
