UNCF was founded in 1944 by Dr. Frederick D. Patterson and Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune on the belief that there is strength in numbers—that HBCUs ought to make a joint effort to appeal for funds—as well as the belief that education was crucial to black mobility.

UNCF is accepting applications for the Oracle Developer Scholars Program (in partnership with UNCF). This scholarship and internship program is available to students majoring in computer science, engineering, and related fields. The application deadline is January 24, 2022.
