I used to think being rich meant owning a lot of sh*t.
And I aspired to work my ass off, make a ton of money, and start buying the G Wagons and Louboutins.
I thought that success was how many expensive things you owned... but that couldn't be further from the truth.
1. Many people you think are wealthy because they have a lot of "things" are just barried in debt
2. Spending every dollar you make, even if you make a lot, will keep you broke... and keep you having to work forever (that treadmill life)
When I sat down with the female VP of the corporation I worked for and had lunch one day, she opened my eyes to the reality of her life: her kids don't know her, and she lives and breathes for the office.
It was then that I realized: what good is a Rolex if it just tells you when your lunch break is over?
Instead of using my money to buy "things", I started using it to buy assets (like stocks and real estate), and the byproduct of that became owning my time.
Now I get to choose how I spend every day, instead of applying for vacation (and getting it denied) or living for the weekends and missing out on life.
