Today the Promesa Boyle Heights Comité de Líderes visited LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes to reconnect with the history, resilience, and cultural power of our city.

Grateful to public historian and docent Chris Gurrola for an engaging tour that sparked reflection, pride, and conversation among our leaders. When we know our history, we lead with clarity.

🎁✨ Big thanks to Cari for organizing the Roosevelt High School gift drop-off with RHS ASB teacher Ms. Ramirez! Coordinators from 1st Street, Sheridan, and Hollenbeck teamed up with staff to fulfill wishlists for 20 students at each site—and their siblings! 💝 Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Roosevelt community, not only were all wishlists fulfilled, but extra gifts were shared with the elementary schools too! Happy Holidays 🎄🌟

At the same time, we acknowledge the true history behind Thanksgiving—a history marked by mass killings and the theft of Indigenous lands. This week, we honor the land we stand on and reflect on the deep pain this holiday represents for many.

We are super excited to introduce Razy Cervantes as our new Community School Coordinator at Sheridan Elementary School! ☀️🐛 Razy brings a wealth of experience, having previously worked as an Expand Learning Associate Teacher at Para Los Ninos Charter Elementary School. He chose to join our organization because he values the importance of education, and Promesa aligns with his goals of empowering the community to ensure student success. 🌳📚✨️
Outside of work, Razy enjoys reading thriller books, running with friends, and spending time with his family. A fun fact about him is that he graduated from MSTMA @ Roosevelt High School in 2019. 🧸🎓❤️ Razy is most excited about collaborating with the Boyle Heights community and empowering the students, parents, and school staff. ✊🏽❤️‍🔥

Another successful Leadership Academy! 🌟💙 This year, resident leaders dove into Proyecto Pastoral, Promesa, leading organizational change, and even learned soothing Tai Chi for stress. 😌🌱 Grateful for everyone who shared space, laughs, and knowledge with us. Can’t wait for next year! ✨✊🏽🌈
