THE room to be in! 1,000+ LA’s BEST staff came together for Pro Day!

Roybal Learning Center was buzzing with training, hands-on learning, collaboration and plenty of new ideas.

Staff spent the day learning from one another, building new skills, sharing strategies and connecting with colleagues who know just how much this work matters.

Every day, LA’s BEST staff help create safe, welcoming spaces where students can learn, explore, make friends, discover new interests and feel at home in their school community, even after the final bell.

All that learning comes back to one thing: giving our students more opportunities to learn, grow, have fun and feel like they belong.

Superintendent Andrés E. Chait and LAUSD Region East leaders visited science classrooms where students were asking thoughtful questions, working through problems, sharing their ideas and digging deeper into their learning.

𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒃𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆, 𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆!

Latino/a/e Heritage Month is a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the many histories, cultures and traditions that shape our Los Angeles community, with our students at the heart of the celebration.

Students from Fishburn Ave Elementary, Atwater Avenue Elementary and Kim Elementary shared their talent and creativity through performances that brought culture and tradition to the stage, while art, interactive activities and storytelling gave everyone more ways to learn and celebrate. The many cultures, traditions and experiences represented throughout our Latino/a/e communities are part of what makes our schools such vibrant places to learn and grow.

When students see their cultures, families and experiences reflected in their school community, they know they belong and that their stories and heritage matter.

Thank you to our students, families, employees and Multilingual Multicultural Education Department for helping make this celebration so meaningful.

This week, we recognize Ms. Lupe Rodriguez, an exceptional healthcare assistant at John W. Mack Elementary School, who has devoted more than twenty-five years serving our students and school community. Ms. Rodriguez works tirelessly each day to ensure every child receives the care, access, and support they need. Thank you, Lupe, for creating a school environment that is welcoming and full of compassion.

“Julia de Burgos’ courage to write about identity, culture and freedom inspired me to use my own voice. She showed me that you can express your feelings through poems, be yourself and not let society’s expectations define you. She inspired me to show my inner self through writing and to own my life.”

LAUSD student Mia Marquez Espinal is putting those words into practice, using writing to express who she is, share her perspective and find strength in her own voice.

Puerto Rican poet Julia de Burgos explored identity, culture, freedom and self-expression through her writing, encouraging others to embrace who they are and speak honestly through their words.
