Congratulations to NU Club of LA member Candy Deemer for winning the 2026 Service to Northwestern Award!

Candy Kaelin Deemer ’76, ’77 MS is a founding member and past chair of the Council of One Hundred at Northwestern; has served on the board of advisers of the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications, the NAA Board of Directors’ executive committee, and multiple Reunion committees; and is a longtime member of the Northwestern University Leadership Circle (NULC) giving society in Los Angeles. She was inducted into the Medill Hall of Achievement in 1997 and is currently chair of the Alumni Regents.

Deemer spent 23 years in advertising before retiring from DDB Worldwide in Los Angeles as chief operating officer/co-managing director in 2000. She then co-wrote Dancing on the Glass Ceiling, and started a new career as an executive coach, retiring again in 2026. Along the way, Deemer got married, had three sons, lived in Barcelona for a year, and traveled to more than 50 countries. She also co-founded Los Angeles Social Venture Partners, a nonprofit that connects business professionals as mentors to nonprofit leaders; served as a trustee of the Kappa Foundation; and discovered the joys of volunteering for Northwestern.

Amy (Labowitz) Johnson, Northwestern Class of 1990, recently published her first book, Life Lessons in Pickleball: Joy, Connection, and Why It's Never Too Late to Get in the Game, and she co-hosting a special event next Thursday, August 20, from 5-7 pm at The Georgian Hotel in Santa Monica with fellow Northwestern alum Phil Pavel '91, Managing Director of The Georgian.

We'd love to invite our fellow Northwestern alumni in Los Angeles to join us for an evening of conversation, storytelling, and connection.

Tailgate with your school at the Alumni Showcase, watch your team advance up the ranks in the winner-take-all co****le tournament, and challenge your rivals to an impromptu game of b**r pong or flip cup. Doors open at noon, with tailgate activities starting at 1pm and the co****le tournament kicking off at 2pm.
