Dear Family and Friends,
I’m reaching out to you today to share some of the highlights of 2024. I know what you’re thinking, “Erika, the year just started!”
Yes, the year may have just started but our dedication to making the world a better place and uplifting the youth continues!
I’d like to share with you a bit more about this amazing non-profit organization that I am so privileged and honored to be a part of.
The LOVE ACTIVISTS mentorship program, based out of South Central, Los Angeles, is in its 7th year of empowering children to channel their talent, experiences and emotions through art forms such as song writing, recording, cinematography, choreography and live performance.
Through the LOVE ACTIVISTS program our kids learn about the power of community and conscious leadership, experiencing a radical shift from a sense of isolation into collectively creating social and personal change that includes reconnecting with nature.
WHAT WE DO
Our after-school mentorship program is offered bi-weekly, teaching 30 children from 2 different schools. We hire over 10 mentors each year led by Alizah Silver, a certified educator of over 15 years. Some of our mentees have been in our program from age 5 to 12 and we are seeing the ripple effect of their growth amongst their family and peers.
Every year, with our mentorship program, we write and produce one song and music video together based on our yearly focus. Some of our past subjects have been about mindfulness and self-regulation, diversity and inclusion, yoga and meditation, environmental awareness and ancestral practices from Africa.
All of the art we create with our mentees is shared for free on YouTube and meant to be used as educational resources in the classroom or at home.
WHAT'S IN STORE FOR 2024
This year we’ll discover indigenous and ancestral practices from the Americas. The program will focus on learning about the rainforest- why it’s so important for our world and why we need to protect it. Our mentors are native leading artists, activists and wisdom keepers who will teach our students and their family the power of reconnecting with one’s ancestors, lineage and rituals. In this way, LOVE ACTIVISTS’ impact is twofold: expanding our student’s world, and equally offering a fair pay to incredible but overlooked and usually underpaid artists.
We are dreaming big this year! We not only want to secure funds for our Mentorship Program and to create our yearly music video, but we also plan to fully fund a nature immersion experience for our children and families.
We’ve observed many retreats geared toward the rich and privileged and we’d like to change that! We’d like to offer the healing and intention put into many retreats with organic nourishing food, daily yoga classes, nature hikes, cultural exchange, adventurous excursions and more, for our kids and their families, completely free! Everyone deserves to have transformational experiences, times without stress and worries, off the grid and completely immersed in nature.

I know first hand that sometimes it feels impossible and overwhelming to change the trajectory of humanity. We might even feel small and disempowered by all the chaos and corruption. Which is why this program is VITALLY IMPORTANT and you play a key role in making this happen! Every single ounce of support helps us anchor love on Earth. It helps us provide a safe space for children who are underserved and/or live in chaotic and often unsafe environments and don’t have access to these resources and experiences.
I personally know the pain of gun violence. Danny, aka Monsters, was a sweet kid who loved to ride his bicycle and always had a big smile on his face. He was an innocent bystander who got caught in a drive by. His passing left a permanent scar in my heart and my family. My little brother, my cousin and I grew up alongside him and his brother David. Our dads would meet up every Sunday to play soccer. Afterwards we would all gather for a carne asada. He was like a little brother to me and his passing awoke in me a desire to change myself so I can change the world. So I got involved with politics and decolonization. I started asking the right questions like, Why does this happen in our world? And How did it all start?
Our world can be a peaceful place. This program creates a realistic and attainable path to achieve a healthier future for one and all. Together, with your help we can help children create peace and harmony within themselves, impacting our city, state, country and ultimately that ripple ❤️🔥 will reach the entire world. By empowering our children and the youth, we simultaneously strengthen humanity and uplift the world for generations to come.
