It’s that special night, that only happens once a year. “Now I have a machine gun. HO-HO-HO.” I hope everyone has a great Christmas.

I shot a USPSA match at Gun Craft Inc. today which is just south of Tampa. This is a great facility and a very well ran club match. It was a glorious 59 degrees in late November, which is apparently cold here. I was sweating in long sleeves but some on my squad were using hand warmers. I guess it’s all relative but I’ll take it.

It’s critical that we not ever forget. I’m proud to know there are quiet professionals still working to ensure those responsible for 9/11, and those who continue to threaten the US, get what’s coming to them. Just two months ago the US was able to drone strike Ayman al-Zawahiri, one of the perpetrators of the 9/11 attacks, who was living in Afghanistan. The effort continues.

So with this AXG grip module, is my polymer duty gun a metal gun now? Did I just go full circle and am back at a 229? Regardless, it’s kind of cool so I’ll run for a while.

I was bored today so it was single action cleaning day. 2011’s (and I guess double stack 1911’s with the new Springfield) are all the tactical sexy time right now. Seems like a more frequent cleaning schedule is called for with these platforms vs striker fired handguns.

No, it’s not a competitive platform for USPSA but it was damn fun to shoot today. Remember, it’s ok to just shoot for fun sometimes. As always, it was a great match at today. I will be moving to my new assignment soon and it will be hard to replace having this place as a home club.

I had to visit Dakar recently which got me thinking about travel safety. Two tips, a Zebra F701 pen is a single piece of stainless steal that can go anyway with you (I think I got that tip in a Greg Ellfitz article). Second, a portable charger achieves two things - extends your phone (communication) for days and protects it from access. Charge the portable charger and then charge your phone off the pack. Never plug your phone directly into a USB port. Add the Mission Timer for cool points.
