Phrasal verbs can be REALLY tricky and confusing😵💫.
Are you UP? Are you DOWN? ALL OVER THE PLACE? What do these expressions even mean???
If you’re as confused as Giorgia is, here’s a quick guide! Save it for future reference!
1. Are you UP? 🆙☝🏼
Being “UP” often suggests being willing, able, or in the mood to do something. So asking “Are you up for coffee?” literally means “Would you like some coffee? Are you in the mood for coffee?☕️
2. Are you DOWN?⬇️👇🏼
Very similar to the meaning of “up”, being “DOWN” for something emphasizes being on board or agreeing to the idea. So in this case, “are you okay with the idea of trying a new coffee place?”☕️
3. My afternoon just went SIDEWAYS🚥🔄
This usually mean that things just started going wrong unexpectedly, plans fell apart or became chaotic.
4. My schedule is ALL OVER THE PLACE📈🤷🏻♀️
This means that your schedule is disorganized, inconsistent or constantly changing. It can be because you have appointments or tasks scattered throughout the day without a clear pattern.

New immigration regulations are bringing important changes to the international students community.
To help our students better understand what these updates mean, we hosted an informative meeting with immigration attorney Nicole Wesley (Law Office of Nicole A. Wesley ), who has been a trusted partner of Columbia West College for many years. During the meeting, Nicole answered students’ most questions and explained the new regulations directly.

Our annual Beach Bonfire Night is officially back! 🔥🌊
It’s summer, we’re by the beach, the weather is beautiful, and the ocean is warm. There’s no better way to experience a California summer than this: good friends, a bonfire, and plenty of hot dogs. This is the LA lifestyle! ☀️
A huge thank you to all the students who joined us for an unforgettable evening, and to our amazing staff for always organizing such fun and memorable activities. We can’t wait for the next one! ❤️

Have you ever stopped someone from saying something that could ruin the moment? And they accidentally make the opposite scenario happen?
Well, we have a word in English for that! “Don’t jinx it” means asking someone not to talk about good luck or success too soon, because doing so might cause bad luck and ruin it. People say this to stay humble, avoid tempting fate, and prevent a good situation from going wrong. Like making your teacher assign you more homework😑

🥑 GUACAMOLE PARTY at COLUMBIA WEST COLLEGE!🎉
Learning English is even more fun when it comes with great food and teamwork! Our amazing teacher Rebecca led students through the secrets of making the perfect guacamole, dividing the class into teams and assigning each group a different culinary task.
From chopping and mixing cilantro to scooping and smashing avocado, everyone worked together to create a delicious homemade guacamole. The afternoon ended with lots of laughters, tortilla chips and the opportunity to enjoy the final result together🫂
A perfect example of why pronunciation MATTERS!
One small misunderstanding and suddenly we’re imagining cows having a night out at a bar🍺🐄
Learning English is not just about memorizing words: it’s about understanding how they sound, how they’re used, and sometimes laughing at the funny misunderstandings along the way!
