Last Tuesday, as I have every single Tuesday since I joined UTLA, I wore red to show solidarity with fellow union members on a particularly important day as our team went back to the bargaining table with Los Angeles Unified School District. Well, LAUSD showed up with nothing more than they’ve offered all year (which has basically been nothing at all) and now we have declared impasse. So after the first of the year we will call for a strike vote and we WILL be heard. We WILL do what is right for our students and fellow educators.

On Tuesdays UTLA members wear red to show our solidarity with our fellow union members. Today it’s especially important because our team has another bargaining session with the Los Angeles Unified School District and if the district doesn’t come to the table ready to negotiate regarding our educators’ and student’ needs, then we will call for a strike vote after the first of the year.

What will bring out thousands of teachers and union members on a Thursday after school? Their school district not participating fully in contract negotiations! Here we go again UTLA…

Ms. Knapp opened the LiveSchool Store at all 3 lunches today! Students were able to redeem points for prizes. Most popular? A SNACK ATTACK! A cold Gatorade & Cheetos for this hot day! Make sure to keep earning points! The store will be open again next Friday, 11/7!

It’s always wonderful to share our school with the community! Today was the culmination of a lot of planning and preparation and hard work to celebrate our amazing students and staff, JBMS’ 100th anniversary AND a visit by the superintendent (a VERY big deal in LAUSD)!

I am proud to stand with NEA Today, Planned Parenthood, Advocates for Youth, the NEA-LGBTQ+ Caucus, & SubjectToClimate to visibly affirm each & every student’s right to learn & thrive in a safe & welcoming school - NO EXCEPTIONS. Inspired by Idaho’s Sarah Inama’s bravery to keep her “Everyone Is Welcome Here” poster in her classroom, I am grateful for the chance to show my support for my students!

The raffle prizes you all send are given to students as part of the PBIS program I created and we won an award for our program! So thank you all for being a part of our school's success!
THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who’s already sent items from my Wishlist! It’s been so fun to take the items into school every day knowing soon we’ll be passing them out to the kids! There are still items left on the list (including granola bars and fruit snacks!), there is always a need, so if you’d like to help the link is here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1YXQP0RWXTLG6?ref_=wl_share. Feel free to send items at any time during the year. I’m determined to make this a good school year for the 1300+ kids I see every day. Thank you so much for being a part of that!
