Thank you to the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce for joining LACCD at this month’s Board of Trustees meeting to share the impact of A Paradigm Shift, an initiative led by LA Chamber President & CEO Maria Salinas that is strengthening partnerships between higher education and industry.

Under the leadership of Chancellor Alberto J. Román, LACCD is committed to reimagining workforce development by bringing education and employers together to create stronger pathways from the classroom to meaningful careers.

Through collaboration with healthcare leaders, philanthropy, and community partners, LACCD is expanding pathways that prepare students for high-demand careers while helping meet Los Angeles’ growing healthcare workforce needs.

We are grateful to Maria Salinas, Devorah Lieberman, Juan De La Cruz of Adventist Health White Memorial, Krystle Kibbe of Kaiser Permanente, and Dr. Porsha Cropper of The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation for their partnership and for being recognized by the LACCD Board of Trustees for this important work.

Together, we are preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals, creating greater opportunity for our students, and building the future workforce of Los Angeles.

Thank you to LAist for highlighting how LACCD is addressing student housing insecurity and the real challenges many students face while pursuing their education.

As Board President Sara Hernandez shared, “If people can’t afford to live in Los Angeles, especially young people, then they are not going to be able to utilize the community college system.”

Beginning this fall, eligible students at East LA College will have access to Cal State LA on-campus housing.

LACCD Chancellor Alberto Román added, “More importantly, they’re on campus and they can begin to see themselves as potential Cal State students.”

As additional beds become available through regional partnerships, LACCD will continue expanding housing opportunities that support student success.

What happens when education leaders and philanthropic partners come together with a shared purpose? They create opportunities that change lives.

Through a partnership between the Foundation for the Los Angeles Community Colleges, the Los Angeles County Office of Education, and regional organizations, foundation board members, K–12 and community college leaders, nonprofits, and philanthropic partners came together to strengthen partnerships, share ideas, and expand opportunities for students across Los Angeles County. Chancellor Román opened the LA County Education Philanthropy Summit with welcoming remarks and hosted the CEO Breakfast, setting the stage for a day of collaboration, innovation, and shared purpose.

United by the belief that philanthropy and collaboration are essential to meeting the evolving needs of students, participants explored new ways to advance educational opportunity throughout the region.

Thank you to our sponsors, co-hosts, and every organization that made this inspiring event possible. Together, we’re building stronger partnerships and creating brighter futures for students across Los Angeles County.

The heart of an advocate is a bright future!

Meet Elena, an LA Mission College student advocate making a difference through the Associated Student Organization. After immigrating to the U.S. at a young age and experiencing foster care, Elena has turned her experiences into a passion for supporting others. She continues to champion students through the Guardian Scholars Program and student leadership while pursuing Business Administration and Pre-Nursing.

This year, Elena will graduate with two associate degrees and hopes to transfer to a top nursing program. We celebrate Elena and the impact she makes every day!
